Our War, Part 3

Synopsis

Wolverine: Origins #18 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
North Africa during the War: Bucky Barnes punches Wolverine in the face for that crack about his manhood in the previous issue, and Logan takes it, knowing Bucky’s action will draw a rebuke from Captain America, humiliating the sidekick in front of the men. Cap and Bucky are introduced to Nick Fury and his SAS teammates, and Fury informs Cap that Baron Strucker is building an independent force in Djerba to ally himself with The Hand for a scheme the Nazis know nothing about. To Logan’s surprise, Cap was unaware of this, but Bucky has the password to gain Fury’s full confidence. The surface mission—the one Captain America is leading—is to defeat a small Nazi force and capture Major Hans Guettzer. Guettzer is secretly working with the Allies and this is all a ruse to get him safely to England. The hidden mission is the one entrusted to Bucky: killing Strucker. As Logan wonders if Cap is such a Boy Scout as he seems, he recognizes Bucky as a trained killer—which explains the antagonism between them. Logan begins to see Cap’s real qualities as he exhibits his strong leadership skills on the long march, but it’s when they sight the enemy that Cap comes into his own. To Logan’s and Fury’s amazement, Captain America turns into a whirlwind in battle, almost single-handedly defeating the German soldiers. Guettzer is "captured" and Bucky is nowhere to be found…. Logan hops in a jeep and follows him, wondering why Bucky was assigned to take out Strucker when Logan was already in the area….

Review / Commentaries

Wolverine: Origins #18 Review by (June 19, 2012)
Review: See under issue #16 for review.

Comments: Black Widow, Seraph, Baron Strucker, Jonin, and The Hand appear in flashbacks to issue #16. Talking to Cap about the offensive and defensive capabilities of his shield, Nick Fury is taken with the word “Shield” in a self-conscious moment, even though he does not name the organization he will head according to the earliest stories.
