Synopsis

World War Hulk: Front Line #5 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
A drunken Sally Floyd wanders the streets of New York, unfazed by the insanity and violence around her, even when she has to be rescued from a would-be rapist by Moon Knight. At the Bugle, J. Jonah Jameson is uncharacteristically somber after viewing TV report about Front Line and calls Robbie Robertson in to make a confession. Ben Urich is trapped in the middle of a small riot as the street gives way around them, and Sally tries to rescue him. Suddenly everything changes when the Sentry appears in the sky. Elsewhere, an enraged Korg is about to kill Danny Granville for accusing him of the murder of ARCH-E-5912. They are interrupted by two police officers bringing Cheryl, a bag lady who witnessed the mechanoid’s demise. She explains how she was about to be killed by a gang of looters when they were frightened off by the sudden appearance of ARCH-E-5912. When Cheryl thanked the mechanoid for saving her life, it realized it had inadvertently disobeyed its orders not to interfere in human affairs. Distraught over the contradiction, ARCH-E-5912 killed itself. Later, a grateful Korg advises Danny to take Sally and leave the city. Danny wonders if Korg is going to fudge his report to the Hulk.

“War is Heck” presents The Top Ten Reasons to Hate Sally Floyd.

Review / Commentaries

World War Hulk: Front Line #5 Review by (February 15, 2010)
Issues 2-5 are divided into three sections, all written by Paul Jenkins: a) “Embedded: Behind Enemy Lines,” drawn by Ramon Bachs, focusing on Ben and Sally’s efforts to cover the human tragedy of the war; b) “Costume Division: Death of an Android,” drawn by Shawn Martinbrough, following Detective Danny Granville and Korg as they investigate the suspicious death of Arch-E-5912; and c) “War is Heck,” drawn by Chris Moreno, a series of comical vignettes on World War Hulk. Story occurs at the same time as WORLD WAR HULK #5. Hulk does not appear in this issue.

World War Hulk: Front Line #5 Review by (February 15, 2010)
Most of the main story takes place during WWH#4. Ben Urich leaves Hulk's arena games early, before Sentry turns up in WWH#5. Next issue's revelation that J Jonah Jameson is Front Line's financial backer, and Robbie Robertson knows it, will suggest that this is what his confession to Robbie will be about. Also we'll learn that JJJ prompted the CNN report we see here that praises FL. Story /2 concludes the Danny Granville/Korg arc set in WWH#3. Story /3 is non-canonical. Most of the issues that Sally Floyd is retconned into are in non-existent titles (like Captain Rectitude Comics) or have impossible volume/issue/date combinations. The possible exceptions are the 1966 Fantastic Four Annual #4, and the 2005 New Avengers #8 where the fictional Paul Jenkins does at least appear.
