Young Avengers #8 Review by (April 8, 2022)
Mike Norton does pencil backgrounds for Jamie McKelvie again.

More on Wiccan and the Demiurge next issue. But I can say that this is something that America Chavez and Kid Loki hinted at when they met in Marvel Now Point One.

More on Leah too next issue. But as an initial point there have been 2 Leah's in Loki's life. The 1st was a servant of Hela. The 2nd was a construct he created in her image. This 1 is the 2nd.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Young Avengers #8 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
Last issue ex-X-Man Prodigy came to the new Young Avengers to tell them that Wiccan (Billy Kaplan)'s 'brother' Speed had been vanished away by something wearing the uniform of Patriot of the old YA. They all visited the site and America Chavez used a previously-unrevealed power of creating a star-shaped interdimesional portal to allow them to follow his trail. Then 'Patriot' greeted them and took them further down the rabbit hole.

Kate Bishop (Hawkeye)'s journal tells us that they've been wandering from reality to reality for 5 weeks now chasing their foe. Some of the realities were connected to 1 of them. There was a world of Kate-Harpies. 1 with Noh-Varr (Marvel Boy)'s giant head on a metallic spider-body. An Asgard full of skeletons including Thor plus Loki on the throne. We also see them wandering through a world of darkness.

But now they happen to have reached Earth-212 where Kid Loki takes them to the best NY-style Korean Barbecue in the multiverse. It was here that the current version of him had his 1st meeting with Ms Chavez (in a tale in Marvel Now Point One). She punched him through the wall which is why she's barred from the place. But she calls to them from outside that she's picked up Patriot's trail.

The next world is inhabited by copies of Noh-Varr's old enemy Oubliette the Exterminatrix (see his Marvel Boy series) but with singularities instead of heads. As usual they're hostile.

In the next world they're mobbed by cute little critters all shouting "Demiurge". This worries America and Loki who try to move on before anyone notices that the stars in the sky form an image of Wiccan. The team are hustled out and Loki promises to explain later ...

... because now they're in the plain white universe where Mother imprisoned Wiccan and Hulkling (#2). And she and 'Patriot' are there to welcome them. Loki tells America to get them out quick, which she does but Hulkling and Prodigy get left behind, Teddy Altman entangled in white tentacles which form out of the comic's panel borders.

In the next world Kid Loki gets another shock. Its only visible occupant is his friend Leah who tells the others that being Loki's friend is not a good move.

Back in the Motherverse Prodigy frees Hulkling from the tentacles with a magic spell, also causing Mother to burst into tentacles of her own. As they run away David Alleyne explains to Teddy that 1 of the many things he remembers is magic words used by Dr Strange et al. He can't actually do magic but the words themselves can scare mystic foes. The duo hide out in this strange world of white panels at various angles. And then David kisses Teddy.
