Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Young Avengers #3 Synopsis by Rob Johnson
Wiccan cast a spell that brought a live alternate version of Hulkling's dead foster-mom to Earth-616 to make him happy. But instead he brought an otherdimensional parasite in disguise. Kid Loki may have had something to do with the spell going wrong. Anyhow the alien is trying to control the powerful superteens but they escape with the aid of KL. Not trusting him they try to take him to Asgardia but are prevented by the sudden appearance of Loki's dad Laufey, also supposedly dead.

In Asgardia over Broxton, Oklahoma Heimdall has detected all 4 beings and is watching. Volstagg cheers the youths on with his flagon of ale. Outside/below Wiccan tries to keep Laufey busy while Hulkling flies Loki to Asgardia. But the Frost Giant throws a bear trap which brings Teddy Altman down to stop them escaping. Billy Kaplan tries to teleport-spell the foe away but it doesn't work and he falls retching. While this has been going on we've been made aware of a red, white & blue streak getting closer. It arrives in the form of America Chavez who lands on the giant squelching him to pulp.

The duo don't know her but are grateful for the assist. Billy explains that the giant was Loki's dead father, and he thinks that the appearance of dead parents is probably due to his spell. America readily agrees because the reason it took her a while to get here is because she's been avoiding her own dead parents. And on cue 2 spandex-wearing hovering females show up to tell her off. She must come home with them to the utopia they saved by smearing themselves across infinite realities. She's got a decade of studies to catch up on. Laufey has also recovered. The teens need an escape route and Wiccan's teleport spell doesn't seem to work. So America reluctantly prises Loki's mouth away from Hulkling's gagging hand and lets *him* do the honours.

They reappear in MJ's Club in New York. The bouncers readily accept Loki but have to card the other teens. Back at the Kaplans', where Mr & Mrs K are under the sway of 'Mrs Altman', the parasite tells them she's located the missing boys in *terrible* company. In the Club Kid Loki persuades the bouncers that his friends *do* have the right ID cards and orders a magnum of champagne. Meanwhile Billy's catching up on text messages again and sees that Kate Bishop is still going on about Skrulls and cute boys. (We'll get back to that plotline from #1 next time.)

Loki says they'll have to solve this problem as a team. America warns the other 2 they can't trust him, which they already know. But now she tells them that earlier (in a tale in Marvel Now Point One) he tried to persuade her to kill them. Loki explains that he wanted her to *protect* them but knew that if he asked her too she'd refuse. She can't deny he's right. The trickster god says he has to play on his bad image to get things done. He says that back in #1 when she caught him interfering with Wiccan's spell he was trying to *stop* it bringing the parasite here in the form of Teddy's mom. But somehow he wound up altering it so it affected all 4 of them, hence Laufey and America's moms.

He goes on to say that Wiccan put so much of himself into the spell that he can't banish its effects. He himself doesn't have much magical strength in this young body. He could could teach Billy how to gain enough control of his own abilities to undo the spell, but it would take a long time. The best way would be for Wiccan to lend Loki his power for 10 minutes and then *he* could do it. All 3 immediately react "No". He tries to win them over by likening himself to Tyrion Lannister of Game Of Thrones but to no avail.

Then Mrs Altman, the Kaplans and the Amerimoms show up. Loki tries to use his teleport spell but collapses. Hulkling tells Wiccan to keep his own currently-dodgy teleport spell as a last gamble, and he and America resort to fisticuffs. They do a lot of beating up squishy constructs, but those constructs can also fight back. Soon Billy and Teddy are both out and America is grabbed by a load of goo tentacles.

They all awake trapped in goo. Mrs Altman tells them that the others have agreed that she should take Billy and Teddy away with her to feed on until they're dead. And that America and Kid Loki should be killed now.
