After spoiling a robbery, Spider-Man reflects on what matters most to him: Gwen Stacy. Peter and Gwen want to get married, but how could they live a normal life if he is Spider-Man? More so, since she still blames the wall-crawler for her father’s death (Captain Stacy died in #90). So, Peter decides to be Spider-Man no more.

Peter Parker had developed an antidote to become normal in case his radioactive blood would turn poisonous. Although he never tested it, he drinks the potion for Gwen.

After suffering a great dizziness, Peter passes out and starts dreaming. In his delusion, a familiar voice calls him. While searching for the source as Spider-Man, he battles past some of his worst enemies: The Vulture, the Lizard, the Green Goblin, Dr Octopus and finally, the Kingpin. Meanwhile, he feels a powerful ache on his sides.

Finally, Spider-Man discovers it was Captain Stacy’s voice. And as he regains consciousness, Peter can still hear Gwen’s father advise: To accept his nature, his destiny: To be Spider-Man, his blessing and curse, for life.

As Peter stands up and removes his sweater, four arms grow from his sides!

Amazing Spider-Man, The (1963 series) #100 Review by (March 6, 2018)

The wildest shock-ending of all time, at least until September 1971, was the conclusion of this Spidey comic. Peter Parker ends his life as a superhero. No more "corny costumed clown", as he calls his alter-ego. Peter is determined to put his relationship with Gwen Stacy first; marry her and live a normal life. But his good intentions backfire in a big way...

The original artwork of this comics' cover recently sold for almost $500,000! The iconic cover by John Romita, Sr. and Frank Giacoia set a record in the comic art collection business.
