We see Peter Parker jumping through the window of J. Jonah Jameson's office. Using his spider powers, he lands on the ground safely and runs up the building. Meanwhile, the Prowler believes he's just killed Parker, and flees through the window as Jameson and Robbie Robertson enter the office. In the terrace, Spider-Man catches the Prowler but falls victim to a gas attack. The villain escapes.
Peter returns to the office and claims that Spider-Man saved him from the fatal fall. Feeling ill, he goes back to his apartment. Before passing out, he remembers Gwen Stacy's treason, now dating Flash Thompson, or so he thinks...
In another part of town, the Prowler, a young black male named Hobie Brown, sees his plans of fame and glory destroyed, and his chances with his girl Mindy, too. Regretting being a murderer, he theorizes that he might get a chance at redemption by capturing Spider-Man, considered a menace by the media.
The next day, Peter stumbles upon Gwen and lets her know about his disappointment. And that night, Spider-Man goes after the Prowler, finding him in a jewelry store. Using a gas filter, and his amazing speed to duck power blasts, Spidey easily defeats his opponent. Spider-Man pulls the Prowler's mask off, revealing his young age. Hobie explains how he tried to do things right but when nobody cared, he ended up getting into trouble. Hobie asks Spider-Man to lock him up, but he decides to give the young confused man a second chance and lets him go free.
