Synopsis

Black Widow: The Things They Say Abou Her #3 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

As Black Widow is questioning gangster Bobby Campero in his car, she is unaware that North Institute Agents have surrounded the area. Martin Ferris, in a helicopter, draws a bead on her; Kestrel orders him not to fire but the vengeful Ferris intends to anyway. A flare suddenly illuminates the area and Natasha is able to leap to safety, dragging Campano with her. Nick Fury in a SHIELD helicopter opens fire on the one with Ferris and he surrenders. Ignoring all this, Nat takes Campano away. As Fury forces the copter to land, Kestrel sends her soldiers after Natasha and Campano. As two soldiers walk through an alley, Nat overpowers them and steals the keys to their vehicle. But while she is doing this Campano takes the opportunity to escape. As she picks up a gun to shoot him, suddenly his legs are entwined in a bolo and Daredevil enters the scene. Nat doesn’t want him there but he says that the tape she sent suggested otherwise. She carries off the sedated Campano and tells DD that the issue is political, a different moral gradient than he is used to….

At a secret medical facility at Darien Gap in Panama, Sally Anne Carter is recuperating as the staff wonders why she is there with Gynacon and the Russians interested in her. After the doctors leave, the cleaner Mariela talks to Sally, telling her that Dr. Ochoa was a torture expert for Pinochet in Chile; Sally knows nothing of this so Mariela explains it to her. Mariela is scolded by her mean supervisor and Sally knows just enough Spanish to recognize she was being threatened with the Castigos: “punishment room.”

Elsewhere, Nick Fury is being beaten by Marrin Ferris and threatened by G-Man Alex Holgate for interfering with official NSA business….

Mariela returns later and supplies Sally with a tampon, telling her that escape is impossible without help from the outside and asks Sally if anyone is looking for her. And then we see the Black Widow….

Black Widow: The Things They Say Abou Her #3 Review by (May 21, 2024)

Review: The first half is some pretty decent action bits with the usual “moral ambiguity” debates that are now an essential part of spy stories. In the second half we finally get to see Sally Anne and discover what a dire predicament she is in, with a vivid description of the Pinochet regime in Chile. And here’s where the “women helping women” theme grows clearer, with the friendship between Sally and Mariela. A nice humane bit after all of the nastiness.
