Synopsis

Captain America (1968 series) #172 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
As Moonstone stands gloating over the fallen figures of Captain America and the Falcon, preparing to kill them with his laser blasts, he is stopped by his boss Quentin Harderman, who explains that the death of Captain America must be a public disgrace. Moonstone takes the unconscious heroes out to Central Park and leaves them in the care of the Sanitation Squad while he contacts the media to set up a public spectacle. While he’s away, Cap and Falcon revive and beat down on the baddies. When Moonstone returns he is bowled over by the fleeing heroes, so he has one of the Squad thump him on the head in order to have a story about the heroes’ escape to tell the reporters when they arrive. Back at Sam’s place, Cap connects Moonstone’s references to country music with the location of a museum that owns a moon rock; conclusion: the villain is from Nashville. Steve and Sam hitchhike to the country music capital and blend into the crowd. However, they jostle a man in the street and the fellow spies Cap’s uniform hidden under his coat; jumping to the conclusion that the Avenger is hunting for him, this man reveals himself as Banshee, the fugitive mutant. After a battle in the streets, Banshee unleashes his ultrasonic scream to knock out the two heroes. Suddenly, Cyclops of the X-Men appears and tries to apprehend the villain. Banshee stuns him with a scream and escapes. Cap and Falcon are levitated away to meet with Professor X and Marvel Girl; the Professor explains that the X-Men are under assault by a group of enemies bent on their destruction…and these enemies may be same ones hunting Cap. Captain America and the Falcon decide to join forces with the X-Men against their common foe.
