Captain America #187 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Standing over the body of the comatose Falcon, Captain America is still reeling from the shock of the Red Skull’s revelation that his crimefighting partner was a pawn of the Skull all along. As Gabe Jones and Peggy Carter watch in horror, Cap is suddenly snatched away by a mysterious oblong craft. The ship heads into a remote mountainous region and deposits Cap in an underground maze. A sinister voice announces that he is in the Maze of the Ancients and that at the center Captain America will die. Not to disappoint his host Cap heads into the maze where he is attacked by a trio of artificial creatures whose bodies are made from a spongelike substance. Cap finds he is able to slice them in half with his shield and continues. The walls move to compel Cap toward the center of the maze and a trap door nearly drops him into a vat of a boiling liquid but his agility saves him. He is suddenly attacked by a shadowy figure who secretes a caustic chemical which burns through Cap’s glove and vanishes. He is next attacked by a horde of small robots and he seizes one to batter through the maze walls, which turn out to be only plaster-covered wood. Coming out of the maze he discovers a laboratory full of cloaked killers. He leaps in among them and easily defeats the untrained "soldiers." He is the shocked into unconsciousness by a ray weapon…and awakens later in the center of the maze, where his host The Druid announces that Cap will die as part of his vendetta against SHIELD. His executioner? An unbeatable android called the Alchemoid….
