Captain America #29 Review by (May 19, 2021)

Review: And again, Captain America stands up for what is right and just and honest—and his partners question his stand and do the bad stuff behind his back. Now that’s an interesting position for a hero to be in, with his closest associates disagreeing with his actions but trying to dupe him. This looks like it will blow up in someone’s face and soon as the comic ends with “To be concluded” though whether that’s the story arc or the entire series remains to be seen. I vote for the story arc. [Later note: I was wrong, this is the end of the volume.]

Comments: Invisible Woman has a brief cameo.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Captain America #29 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Alexa Lukin takes Sin, the Red Skull’s daughter, out into the woods near the Lukin estate to show her something. Lukin then conjures up monsters to attack Sin. Sin draws her gun and shoots at them until Lukin disarms her and wraps her in a magic chain. The monsters continue to come and, pushed to fear, Sin unleashes a psychic bolt of energy, destroying the monsters and the chain. And that was what Lukin wanted her to see....

Captain America, Dryad, and Sharon Carter meet with Nick Fury Jr. of SHIELD along with General Thunderbolt Ross, to discuss the matter of the Lukins. Ross objects, wondering if Cap is acting out of ego after his recent beating by Sin’s thugs was broadcast on television. Cap agrees he is taking this personally and that the Lukins schemes are paid for with US government contracts so every US citizen should be taking it personally. Dryad gives a dossier to Fury on Alexa Lukin’s crimes, taken from the brain of a captive Baron Strucker. Ross suggests assassination but Cap rejects that, wanting to perpetuate the dream by capturing her for trial but Sharon has second thoughts….

Sharon Carter visits New York Mayor Wilson Fisk, giving him a file on the Power Elite, turning a blind eye to how he will use the info. After consulting the file, Fisk gives orders to his henchmen….

While Cap plans to capture Alexandr Lukin, a team made up of Dryad, White Tiger, Misty Knight, and Winter Soldier heads out to capture Alexa Lukin as she, Sin, and their bodyguards are out on the town. A smoke bomb envelops them, the team takes down the guards, Dryad faces Alexa—and suddenly a sniper’s bullet pierces Alexa Lukin’s brain. Sin seizes Alexa’s body and teleports away with it. The heroes are shocked at this act and Bucky hears a faint voice over the comm: “Justice is served,” the cry of the Scourge of the Underworld….
