Synopsis

Gargoyle (1985 series) #3 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

The newly restored gargoyle leads his minions in a reign of terror around the land. Isaac Christians blames himself for the trouble while the newly revived Germaine mocks and abuses him. The Druid Derwyddon arrives and halts Germaine while healing Isaac physically, spiritually, and emotionally with a special amulet placed around Isaac’s neck. Germaine tries to escape but the Druid commands the trees to cut off the exit from the church….

Meanwhile, the gargoyle and his gang wreak havoc for another three pages in the nearby town of Blackston….

Then Derwyddon tells his story: he was a druid, worshipper of the husband-wife gods Hu and Ceridwen. While undergoing a ritual at sea, he was taken by sea sprites and slept for centuries, awakening in the modern world where his gods were gone. So in a fit of pique, he freed the gargoyles, instantly changing his mind and moving on (related in issue #2). Isaac continues his story: leaving Paris he trekked to India and became a follower of the guru Vishnu Dass. When word came that his father had died and he was needed back in Christiansboro, Isaac went home with his master’s blessing. But Isaac grew into an old fool, searching for truth in the occult. So now Derwyddon explains that they are responsible for the gargoyle’s evil and they must atone. Isaac considers himself too old and weak but Derwyddon imbues him with strength and confidence….

Elsewhere, Gargoyle plays the pan pipes and transforms ordinary humans into monsters cavorting in wicked abandon….

So Derwyddon leads Isaac and Germaine off to Blackston and a reckoning….
