Synopsis

Ghost Rider (2011 series) #1 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Johnny Blaze, now freed of the curse of the Ghost Rider, stands in the desert, taking in the fresh air for the first time in years….

In Dayton, Ohio, Sin, possessed by the spirit of Skadi and her Nazi war machines are terrorizing the city. He followers ask if they should destroy the news copter overhead and she says not to, let the world see what’s happening. Her henchmen Blackout and Deathwatch are enjoying taking part in the reign of terror when the new Ghost Rider appears before them. They note that this one is a woman and look forward to killing her but she dashes toward them, clutching a handlebar—which explodes into the flaming motorcycle. She passes them and stops, the cycle vanishing. She explains that she has marked them, they now feel all the suffering they have given to others in their lifetimes. The villains beg for mercy and she swiftly decapitates them with a scythe. Then GR spies two humans watch from a ruin and tells them they will be punished for their sins, sending them screaming away. Then Skadi hits Ghost Rider from behind and as she is about to deliver a second blow, the blazing motorcycle crashes into her. Then the Nazis open fire on GR and the cycle. Ghost Rider wraps Skadi in her chain, forcing her to feel the grief she has caused others. GR picks up Skadi’s hammer and the shock causes her to faint and resume her human form. Skadi notes that GR is full of anger and will cause great destruction and doesn’t know it yet. Skadi then gives her henchmen permission to destroy the news copter….

In the desert, Johnny Blaze feels the storm coming. He enters his cabin and meets Mephisto, who tells him that Johnny has just damned the entire human race so they are going to save them together….

Review / Commentaries

Ghost Rider (2011 series) #1 Review by (June 24, 2025)

Review: The new Ghost Rider debuts and she’s a woman. We really don’t know anything about Alejandra yet, having just seen her fighting bad guys and looking scary for the first time. But what we’ve seen was cool enough—though with hints of things to come, seeing her threaten the scared and ordinary as well as the monstrous villains we are rooting against. The second story gives her origin and tells us a lot less then we want to know, keeping many surprises in store for the coming issues.

Comments: Issue bannered FEAR ITSELF, as a tie-in to that event. Part two of five parts. Story takes place between FEAR ITSELF #5 and 6. Art on the splash page by Mark Texeira. First appearance of Ghost Rider (Alejandra Jones). Sin (Synthea Schmidt) was possessed by Skadi in FEAR ITSELF #1. Deathwatch was introduced in GHOST RIDER (1990) #1, Blackout in the following issue. Deathwatch is next seen in a cameo in ALL-NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA #2, Blackout in FEAR ITSELF: THE FEARLESS #10Cameos by Death Ninja, Zarathos, Lilith (Dracula’s daughter), Nightmare, Zadkiel, Scarecrow, The Orb

Second story: First appearance of Seeker. Origin of Ghost Rider (Alejandra Jones).
