Synopsis

Ghost Rider (2011 series) #2 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

Mephisto plays the dutiful host for Johnny Blaze in Hell until Blaze grows disgusted with his smarmy manner and punches him. The Servitor picks up Johnny who shouts that Mephisto can never persuade him to become Ghost Rider again. Mephisto agrees, then sheepishly asks Johnny for help. Johnny bursts out laughing. Mephisto shows him the Serpent, explaining how his arrival has compelled Adam to begin his dark plan but the discovery that the Serpent is aware of them causes them to retreat and start over. Mephisto shows Johnny a vision of Adam’s future followers, claiming that taking sin away from mankind will remove everything that makes humanity worthwhile. Johnny knows that without sin, Mephisto has nothing to feed on and is trying to trick Johnny into stopping Adam. But Mephisto wants Johnny to stop the new Ghost Rider, a young woman indoctrinated and sheltered, never going outside and turned into Adam’s weapon….

Alejandra returns to the temple and Adam shows her off as a success, victorious over sin—though Alejandra herself is most excited about going outside for the first time. Adam then commands her to judge her fellow students for their sins. Seeker tries to interfere so Adam has him machine-gunned by his followers. Ghost Rider examines her comrades, tries to resist; Adam slaps her and she knocks him down. Angered, he grabs her by the skull, inflicting severe pain and bringing her under his control….

Johnny offers to rescue her but she clobbers him and announces she will wipe out all sin, starting with his, as she holds her scythe to his throat….

Ghost Rider (2011 series) #2 Review by (July 8, 2025)

Review: So we get an idea of what Adam is up to and his rationale for creating a new Ghost Rider. He wants to wipe out the human race for their sins. And this is a threat to Mephisto, oddly acting as a smarmy comic figure who needs Johnny’s help to defeat the new Ghost Rider. And Johnny rightly punches him for being an absurd caricature of the usually menacing character. But Johnny decides to take part, despite his wanting nothing more to do with Ghost Rider matters. But what if the new Ghost Rider doesn’t want to be rescued? And we have no idea what she wants as we’ve seen little of Alejandra apart from Adam and Ghost Rider. Maybe next issue?

Comments: Issue bannered FEAR ITSELF, as a tie-in to that event. Part three of five parts. Story takes place between FEAR ITSELF #5 and 6. Art on the splash page by Roland Boschi.
