Synopsis

Hulk (2008 series) #38 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Red Hulk lies dazed and trapped under the fallen Avengers Tower; Black Fog has appeared to end his life as dispatched by Zero/One. MODOK Superior, come as witness, blasts a hole though Black Fog’s middle. Zero/One and Jacob Feinman, watching from her stealth ship are surprised. Angrir, Breaker of Souls a/k/a the possessed Thing, returns to the battlefield and hits Red Hulk so hard that he lies through the air and tears a hole through Zero/One’s unseen ship. MODOK orders his LMDs to track Red Hulk while he faces the oncoming enemy forces. The LMDs forecast the fall of Manhattan in 2.3 hours; MODOK determines it will not be so and fires on the Nazi war machines while ordering the LMDs to join him with plasma rifles. He also orders the release of Zzzax. The Nazis also fire on Zero/One, confusing her as she is not involved in this conflict. Jacob points out that they likely don’t care so she returns fire. MODOK rescues some civilians, surprising a police officer that he is one of the good guys. Then Black Fog severs MODOK’s weapons and spider legs. The two battle until Zero/One stops him. She connects to MODOK’s brain and they exchange information; they understand one another and find a way to merge their goals (they represent the future) to accommodate a joint action against the Nazi enemy. As the wreck the enemy, MODOK decides he is in love….

Annie, Red Hulk’s LMD support, finds him lying in a crater in Vermont. Rulk is okay and hopes he broke Angrir’s hammer….

Review / Commentaries

Hulk (2008 series) #38 Review by (December 7, 2022)

Review: Part two of the tie-in just exacerbates the problems with the first part: Red Hulk has even less to do as the story occupies itself more with the villains from the ongoing series than its hero. There are cool bits but not enough to overcome the misfocused story and scratchy art. And Thing hit Rulk with extreme force and he only landed in Vermont? What a wussy. Thor smacked Green Hulk all the way from New York to Eastern Europe.

Comments: FEAR ITSELF tie-in; story falls between issues #4 and 5 of the main series. Colors by Bettie Breitweiser and Jim Charalampedis.
