Iron Man Vs. Whiplash #4 Review by (November 19, 2021)
Comments: Iron Man’s quote of James T. Kirk is Kirk’s last words to the villain Kruge in STAR TREK III. Script by Marc Guggenheim and Brannon Braga.

Review: Very satisfying wrap-up to a highly exciting miniseries. The “consortium” is a rather interesting idea, financed by several governments that covet Stark Tech and it would not be a surprise if such an organization was revived. The only disappointment? We don’t get to see Whiplash kill Vladimir Putin.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Iron Man Vs. Whiplash #4 Synopsis by T Vernon
Tony Stark is shocked to see an image of himself entering the lab on a date when he wasn’t there; an alarm goes off and he dons the Iron Man armor and fights off a squadron of guards, rocketing to freedom out through several levels of ceiling. Pepper Potts, studying the security records, discovers that “Tony Stark” has been making several visits to the lab and leaving with maybe hundreds of pieces of Stark tech. Tony’s scan of implanted tracking devices locates all of the missing tech in Japan….

Whiplash, hacking into the Stark computers from a café in Amsterdam, learns Stark is going to Japan, dons his armor and hops on his glider and sets out for East Asia….

Iron Man knows that Whiplash has been monitoring his communications and is luring him to Japan for the final showdown with the mystery villains who have stolen his tech. Shellhead breaks into the villains’ well-constructed lair, followed almost immediately by Whiplash. Whiplash explains he is Anton Vanko, seeking revenge against Stark for destroying his home village of Volstok; Tony shows him a room full of stolen Iron Man armors. They are then attacked by an army of Stark clones wearing various versions of the armor, there is a battle which sets the place on fire, causing the reactor to overload—but first, Iron Man and Whiplash catch the two mystery men who explain they are part of a consortium funded by several of the world’s governments, including that of the USA. Their mission was to obtain Stark technology and the method they chose was to clone Tony Stark and have “him” steal the tech for them. Vladimir Putin had a fake Iron Man destroy Volstok to wipe out an anti-Putin movement and its leader Igor Vanko. Iron Man has to fight Whiplash to stop him from killing the nameless bad guys but as the reactor overloads, Vanko escapes and Tony is able to get out with the bad guys, leaving his clones to be destroyed in a massive explosion. The baddies are turned over to the UN, Tony has Volstok rebuilt as a Stark factory and Anton Vanko? He’s hanging out near the Kremlin, hoping for revenge against his real enemy….
