Two months ago, the Warriors Three bearing a wounded Sif, sought refuge from the forces of Loki in Alfheim, land of the Light Elves. They were found there by Loki’s flying ship, Naglfar, made of the nails of the dead which attacked immediately with a cloud of arrows….
Now Thor arrives there to find the land a ruin, blanketed in snow. He encounters a thin and emaciated Volstagg who tells him of the destruction of Alfheim and the deaths of Fandral, Hogun, and (apparently) Sif. Thor encourages his despairing comrade and gives him the war hammer of Geirrodur, King of the Trolls, whose forces have been defeated by the army of Asgard. As Thor leads his followers through the snowy wastes, he discovers that Harokin and his barbarians have destroyed Hrinmeer the Flame at the costs of many lives, including Harokin’s. Moving on, further losses are revealed.: former enemy Kurse sacrificed his life to save child refugees from Asgard and Thor’s brother Vidar who abandoned the warrior life for his farm acquitted himself well in battle against the enemy. They finally come upon Loki’s forces besieging Vannahiem and enter battle. Thor engages Fenris Wolf, who has grown to giant-size; Valkyrie, who has returned to fight beside her people, is slain by Durok the Demolisher). Thor discovers Sif is alive, though having lost an arm. In a battle of strength, Thor draws upon deep reserves he never knew he had and slays Durok, then, weak and injured, turns to face Fenris. Suddenly a blast from the sky overwhelms the wolf-creature: Beta Ray Bill, come to fight alongside his oath brother….
