Tomb of Dracula #12 Review by (August 31, 2020)

Review: Grim tale brings a bitter fate to a regular character—though, sad to say, Edith Harker didn’t make much of an impression so it’s no real loss but the emotion felt in the comic is real. A darker than expected ending to a tale of Dracula’s haunted house antics full of suspense and thrills.

Comments: Final appearance of Edith Harker. First appearance of Safron Caulder, who appears infrequently over the years. Apparently Frank Drake and Blade were introduced to one another offstage, as they know each other despite this being the first time they are seen together.

Tomb of Dracula #12 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

The vampire hunters catch Dracula preying on an innocent victim on a London street; Rachel van Helsing fires a bolt but Dracula turns to mist; Taj Nital leaps on his back and the vampire flies into the air and drops with Taj on the bottom. Dracula reveals this was part of his plan: he seizes Edith Harker, clouting Frank Drake in the process, and flies off with her as hostage, challenging Quincy Harker to follow them….

Blade is sitting at home with his girlfriend Safron Caulder but their night is interrupted by a phone call from Dracula telling Blade where he can be found….

The following night, the heroes arrive at the lonely mansion Dracula had summoned them to. The lights go out in the main room with a small light revealing Edith on the balcony and Dracula tells them to come and claim her. Turns out the floors are rotted, bats attack them, Dracula carries Edith further back into the house. Blade turns up, as he had also been invited by Dracula, just in time to save Frank from black widow spiders. Taj finds Edith and Dracula beats him senseless. Blade and Frank face him but Dracula is too much for them, as he hurls Blade off a balcony and attacks Frank—but Blade slashes the vampire’s face with a teakwood knife and the villain flees into the night. The heroes find Edith—and discover she has been turned into a vampire. With a heavy heart, Quincy must stake his own daughter while Frank vows vengeance against Dracula….
