Synopsis

Thor: The Deviants Saga #5 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Ereshkigal is surprised that Kro has activated the Unbinding Stone of Oshemar. As they return to Lemuria, Thor and Phastos see the glow of reality being dissolved and reach the palace to find their friends Ransak and Karkas freed from Ghaur’s mental control as the Deviant leader is in a panic over the new disaster. Phastos explains that he led Kro to believe that he could repair the resurrection chamber so that he could contrive to collect the Antarctic Vibranium and use it to destroy the Unbinding Stone before it was activated but now he grants that they should have hurried. But Thor refuses to believe the universe is doomed and takes the Vibranium and flies toward the center of the chaos, flying through shifting reality including into the mouth of a giant Kro, who is regretting the disaster he has caused. He reaches the Stone and touches the Anti-Metal to it and it dissolves….

When Thor awakens he is surrounded by his friends and Kro who tells him that Ghaur, Ereshkigal, and Tutinax are among the missing, ironically leaving Kro in charge now that he has forsworn his lust for power. Kro grants them safe passage out for the heroes—except for Ransak. Ransak is the only Deviant who is not sterile so they need him to repopulate the city. But Ransak doesn’t want to stay so a fight breaks out which ends only when Phastos volunteers to remain to find a solution to the problem because he sees the Deviants not as monsters or threats but unique life forces….

Thor and the others return to Olympia where Thor asks Virako what happened to the other Eternals. Virako explains that when Sprite gave the Eternals human identities, it recalled all of the space-faring Eternals home as well. Once they had regained their true identities, they formed the Uni-Mind once more to decide whether to return to space or remain on Earth. At that moment  the Uni-Mind returns and all one hundred Eternals descend to Earth to stay. Ikaris approaches and apologizes for the delay but his father Virako hugs him. Ikaris then explains that the Eternals have also decided to remain apart from all other beings and so this will be the last time Thor (or any other outsider) visits Olympia. Thor agrees to this and says farewell, wondering what their next meeting may be….

Thor: The Deviants Saga #5 Review by (December 11, 2024)

Review: See issue #1 for full review.

Comments: The majority of the Eternals departed for space in AVENGERS #246-248. Sprite wiped the memories of the Eternals and gave them new lives as human beings in ETERNALS (Vols. 3 and 4). Eternals seen in the returning group include Thena, Makkari, Sersi, Zuras, and Ajak. Andy Troy and Wil Quintana share coloring duties.
