Sif,
the new guardian of Bifrost, sees Tyr and the captive Thor approaching,
enveloped by the darkness that is the Rokkva. She attempts to hold them off but
the darkness overwhelms her….
Ten
minutes earlier, Jane Foster was confiding in Volstagg her confusion and
uncertainty about battling the Rokkva, a dark nothingness that she couldn’t
comprehend. While Mister Horse made the acquaintance of the hellhound Thori,
Volstagg led Jane to the armory to choose her armor and weapons for the coming
battle—and then the horn sounded….
Tyr
with the enslaved Thor and Sif arrives at the gate of Asgard to announce he is
taking the throne, met by Hildegarde, Hogun, and Fandral, who call on him to
release Thor. Tyr refuses and the army of Asgard attacks. Tyr uses the white
staff to unleash the Rokkva, turning the skies dark and overwhelming the
warriors. Volstagg leads the second wave, while Jane rides Mister Horse over
everyone’s heads to take on Tyr directly. He impales her on the white stake and
Jane breaks down to reassemble as Valkyrie since the staff was originally her
own All-Weapon Undrjarn; she sees all of the power and knowledge held within
the darkness but rejects it, using the staff to draw together and contain the
Rokkva, returning the Asgardians to normal. Thor asks if Jane would have killed
him back on Midgard (last issue). To save Earth, she agrees, she would—but it
would have killed her too. She heads out to return the Rokkva to its cave,
leaving Mister Horse in Thor’s care….
Loki and Drrf are waiting at the Rokkva’s cave
and see the defeated Tyr return; Loki offers to protect Tyr from Asgard’s wrath
in exchange for “the cards up his sleeve.” Meanwhile, Valkyrie returns Rokkva to
its prison, saying “See you at the end of all things.”
