This issue continues Ghost Rider's quest to recruit an army of alternate timeline Avengers.

This Carol Corps is stoatily different from the Carol Corps in the Secret Wars Battleworld (Captain Marvel & Carol Corps mini-series).

Avengers Forever #9 Synopsis by Rob Johnson

Carol Danvers sees dream-visions of herself capturing a Hydra blimp, riding a pterodactyl, being an astronaut and being the Captain Marvel we know. In all these visions she flies. But this Carol is kept on the ground by an enormous ball and chain as she does her job as 1 of the 'dogs' who gather up the birds that the Lords and Ladies (many of whom are anthropomorphic animals) of the Hellfire Church shoot down every Sunday. This alternate world is ruled by Dark Phoenix of the Multiversal Masters Of Evil who has decreed that nothing should be allowed to fly apart from herself.

A crocodile Lord kicks Carol into the mud for not gathering up his kills quickly enough. Enraged she turns on him but the other Church members gang up on her and throw her into the pit she calls home. She remembers how as a teen she built wings and flew. She was quickly shot down and 'rewarded' with the ball and chain. Now every night she tries in vain to leap free of it.

Another day she finds some chicks and smuggles them home. She feeds them her gruel and tries to keep them quiet. Then days later they fly into the air. The local Church bunch prepare to shoot them but Carol launches herself at them all, wielding her ball as a weapon. 1 fires a musket at her but the bullet shatters the shackle round her neck and she's free of the ball. And she leaps into the air and flies away following her birds. That night she launches a reign of terror on the Church members, swooping down to take each into the sky and then drop them.

Then she flies higher into the sky and is picked up by a load of versions of herself like those she saw in her dreams, who occupy a flying Omni-Carrier. They welcome her into the multiversal Carol Corps. And alongside them flies Ghost Rider's Hell Charger car.
