Avengers n.1 #5 Review by (April 1, 2017)
Comments: Pencilers are Barry Kitson, Mark Bagley, Sean Izaakse, and Ro Stein. Inkers: Mark Farner, Scott Hanna, Mike Perkins, Ted Brandt, Sean Izaakse, and Drew Hennessy. Colorists: Jordan Boyd, Matt Yackey, Will Quintana. This five-issue miniseries falls between the original AVENGERS #16 and 17. Issue includes a vintage ad for Marvel Comics t-shirts. The letters page is a new one, covering responses to this series—and the page teases the return of Avenger X is the present.

Review: Nicely done throwback to the early days of Marvel Comics is an entertaining read though no classic. I'm sure they had a lot of fun doing it. A No-Prize to anyone who can explain why the series needed an army of artists to complete.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Avengers n.1 #5 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

CressidaAvenger X—has been revealed to be a bad guy, draining the life energies of the Avengers, leaving them aged husks and gaining their powers. The original Avengers—Iron Man, Thor, Wasp, Giant-Man—arrive to stop her. With her new powers she is able to hold her foes off and escape....

Two days later, a public funeral is held for the fallen heroes. A disguised Cressida is spotted watching from a treetop and suddenly the dead Avengers—Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Hawkeye, revived by Hank Pym's genius—spring out from hiding to trap her, the other Avengers staying out of the fray and rushing the civilians to safety. Cressida turns out to still have her powers but they can't figure out who she has drained power from—until Hawkeye remembers Jarvis in the Mansion. Quicksilver rushes the butler to the hospital while the other three split up in the mansion to fight Cressida. They take turns engaging her in battle so that her power winds down—then Wanda amplifies Pietro's speed so that he creates a tornado around her which hurls her far away into the woods. There Cressida encounters Wizard, Trapster, and Sandman—three of the Frightful Four—and they push her into the grave they had intended for the traitorous Medusa. Trapster buries her under a load of glue and Wizard drops a giant rock on top, inscribing it as her tombstone. When the Avengers arrive moments later the baddies are gone and they don't see the newly created tomb so they head back to the Mansion....

The next day they learn that Jarvis is recovering and they set out on their next mission—to find the Hulk....
