Synopsis

Battle Scars #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Marcus Johnson and Cheese find out all they can about Taskmaster but still have no clue why he would be interested in Marcus. They learn that the baddie was once employed by Archstone, the private security firm and decide to start with them. After beating up a few Archstone employees they get an address for Taskmaster—and a warning that there’s a contract on Marcus’ head. Then it all gets to Marcus while he’s waiting in a Washington DC hotel room and he almost shoots Cheese. There’s still The Fear….

Marcus goes to the New York address for Taskmaster and hides in his room with Cheese watching from a rooftop nearby. He’s attacked in the dark and after a scuffle Marcus realizes that he’s not fighting Taskmaster but Deadpool. Cheese sees this from across the way and races over, learning from radio that SHIELD, Captain America, and the Avengers have all been alerted too. Marcus thinks it’s over when he stabs Deadpool in the chest but it’s not, to Marcus’ shock. ‘Pool has been told Marcus is a bad guy who killed an old lady in Atlanta; Marcus tries to explain and a confused Deadpool decides to take Marcus prisoner until he figures it out—and then he’s stabbed through the back by a sword-wielding Taskmaster, pinning him to a wall. TM then hints darkly about Marcus’ father before killing him but Cheese shoots the baddie. Marcus leads TM up to the roof where he springs his trap—explosives he had planted earlier. At gunpoint, Taskmaster tells him it’s all about his father and he should run away and not look back—and then more dangerous people arrive: the Serpent Society (Anaconda, Death Adder, Rattler, Cottonmouth, Bushmaster)….

Review / Commentaries

Battle Scars #3 Review by (December 24, 2019)

Review: So doesn’t the idea of Deadpool versus Taskmaster sound like the coolest thing ever? Well, it’s not. An oddly subdued Deadpool (and it’s a good thing as he’s not the star of this series) is nailed to a wall and doesn’t get free by the end of the issue so no fight. Marcus’ parentage is called into question once more and he does a great deal of rough fighting with a bunch of Serpents dropping on him at the end. More cool stuff to come.

Comments: Bannered “Shattered Heroes.” Plot: Cullen Bunn, Matt Fraction, Chris Yost.
