Captain America/Iron Man #4 Review by (March 2, 2022)

Review: There’s a lot of fighting with robots in this issue which is always cool, especially when Cap has armor. We also learn the villains’ scheme and discover that the Paladins are technically the bad guys. And we still have Veronica Eden’s subversive narration to counterpoint the activities of the heroes. Another enjoyable issue with one more in which to wrap it all up.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Captain America/Iron Man #4 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Aboard the Helicarrier controlled by Overseer, Iron Man and Captain America, with the seriously injured Fifty-One, are under fire from the army of Myrmidons that serve the Overseer. Cap dons the Supreme Hydra armor to hold off the robots while Shellhead flies Fifty-One to safety. Iron Man leaves the injured alien with the Paladins (Pioneer, Vox, Prima Donna, and Think Tank) and fights two Myrmidons that have followed him in the sky above Minneapolis….

Veronica Eden confronts Overseer which has betrayed her and now counts her among the humans that must be subdued in its quest to remake America, then the world. Overseer then communicates its big plan to Cap who finds and frees Veronica Eden who dons her Hydra suit (with Doc Ock tentacles and a Goblin Glider) and joins Cap in the battle….

Iron Man tracks down Senator Baker, Eden’s co-conspirator, to learn about the big scheme. From Baker’s and Eden’s confessions to separate heroes, we learn that Baker was going to revive SHIELD while Eden took over Hydra and together they would stage mock battles between heroes and villains so the Paladins were recruited to fight the re-activated Myrmidon—but they lost and panicked. Only Fifty-One thought it a good idea to warn real heroes about the Overseer so the Paladins arranged it to look like the alien had turned bad and they were trying to stop him instead of vice-versa. Meanwhile, Overseer evolved and rebelled against the humans….

And now, the Paladins have the unconscious Fifty-One and are contemplating what to do with him….
