Captain America (2023 series) #16 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4.5 stars

In Dark Asgard, Captain America and Spider-Man have rescued Bill Cobb, the restore point that can bring back Broxton. Thor is busy fighting off the Dark Asgardians, including the negative versions of Thor and Loki. Kelda jumps in to take on Loki while Cap and Spidey rush Bill to the surface, ramming through their foes. When Bill gains a sword he is able to join the battle. Dark Loki warns Kelda that if Dark Asgard falls, she, like they, will no longer exist but she will do anything for her love of Bill. Exiting the cave, Bill and Kelda are reunited; a storm blows away Dark Asgard, leaving the people and town of Broxton in its place. Kelda is restored to normal and Bill proposes. Thor thanks Cap and Spidey and heads for the bakery and its rye bread. Cap thanks Spidey, expressing concern of the recent polarization of the nation, taking heart from the unity of the people of Broxton. And then they join Thor in the bakery.

Review / Commentaries

Captain America (2023 series) #16 Review by (December 18, 2024)

Review: Very nice wrap-up to the arc and the entire series though it does seem as though we will never see the Front Door Cabaret and its complicated cosmology again, at least not in a Captain America series. And I failed to mention how impressed I was with the complex and eerie Dark Asgard art which must have been a challenge to the artist. And JMS tries to put a positive spin on current events though I wouldn’t want to be the one explaining what’s been going on in the USA for the last ten years. And I shall again ask why a major development in Thor’s saga takes place in a Cap comic.

Comments: Final issue of the series; last page features a note of thanks to the readers from J. Michael Straczynski, also praising his co-creators.
