Captain America #15 cover

Story Name:

And a Town Shall Rise

Synopsis

Captain America #15 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Captain America, Thor, and Spider-Man are transported down to the former site of Broxton, Oklahoma, scaring away a coyote. Cap took a street view of the former city and they follow it downtown. Then, suddenly, two figures appear in the view: Bill and Kelda. Thor recounts their tragic love story, a human and an Asgardian, their deaths, and their reunion in Valhalla. Then they are attacked by Dark Kelda, swinging her sword at Cap and Spidey until she recognizes Thor and stops, pleading for his help….

Later she explains: She was much in love with Bill but she had a premonition of impending doom, so she exerted her magic and froze the image of Asgard to preserve the moment forever, what Spidey called a restore point. And Spidey recognizes what went wrong: when a choice is made, it creates two possible paths…but now it is theorized that quantum particles go back in time and erase the road not taken. Well, by freezing the moment, she preserved the past that would have been erased, creating Dark Asgard and the Dark inhabitants are trying to break through into the ‘real world,” which could mean the end of the universe—so Dark Asgard must fall. Kelda opens a portal to that stolen moment and the three heroes enter Dark Asgard. Thor challenges the inhabitants to distract them from Cap and Spidey trying to enter the city. Kelda shows them the door to the restore point but it is locked; Dark Thor arrives to fight them, striking Cap’s shield with Mjolnir. Cap sends Spidey in to duel with Dark Thor while he tries to break down the wall around the door with his shield. Dark Loki arrives to make snide comments and Kelda stands against him. Then Cap breaks through the wall to reveal…normal human Bill in prison….

Review / Commentaries

Captain America #15 Review by (November 13, 2024)

Review: Cap is stalwart, Thor noble, and Spider-Man annoying as we’ve come to expect (At one point, Thor asks Spidey, “Have you no unspoken thoughts?”) And we learn of the origin and existence of Dark Asgard which must fall. And I’m still wondering why such heavy alterations to Thor’s world are taking place in Cap’s comic. At least we have Spidey to explain the oddball scientific concepts herein.

Comments: The love story of Bill and Kelda was seen in THOR (2007). Spidey jokes about Depends, an adult diaper. Issue includes a tribute to the late John Cassaday, cover artist for CAPTAIN AMERICA (2002) and several other things, notably PLANETARY for WildStorm.
