Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Civil War: House of M #3 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

The rulers of Genosha surrender under Magneto’s threat. Meanwhile, his followers have dug out the ruins of the building and discovered that Charles Xavier is alive but his legs are crushed….

A week later, Magneto proclaims the nation of Genosha a refuge for the mutants of the world. Quicksilver finds all this ceremony wasteful and they should be going to war while Polaris considers the inspiration for the oppressed mutants of the world to be the best part and Wanda just wants them to stop fighting. Xavier, now confined to a hoverchair, warns Magneto of a growing anti-mutant movement led by people like demagogue Graydon Creed and advises him that since he is a head of state, he should act like one….

Magneto meets with the rulers of the Inhumans, Medusa and Black Bolt, and persuades them to promise to come to Genosha’s aid in case of attack….

Magneto then goes to Atlantis on a similar mission to Prince Namor. Namor, however, has no sympathy for any surface dweller yet he still promises gold and weapons of needed….

After debating the wisdom of allying with the Inhumans and Namor, Magneto and Charles go to Wakanda. King T’Challa, the Black Panther, declines to join them in war but promises Vibranium, which Magneto considers unnecessary but also promises to officially recognize Genosha....

Charles considers this a victory but later a brooding Magneto goes down to the dungeon where they keep Sabretooth….

Shortly thereafter, the American news reports on the savage murder of Graydon Creed. Vice President Bolivar Trask asks the medical men to cover it up, passing it off as an accident while plotting revenge against the mutants to be carried out by a team consisting of Winter Soldier, Nuke, and Mimic….

While Xavier is rebuking Magneto for Creed’s murder, the enemy team infiltrates Genosha. As Mimic and Nuke distract the guards, Bucky steals into the palace where he is caught by Sabretooth. After a brief but brutal battle, Bucky hurls Cap’s shield and it ricochets off the walls and crashes through Sabretooth’s back, nailing him to the wall. As Bucky plants explosives, he is found by Charles Xavier. There is a debate over the morality of Magneto and whether America is justified in this suicide mission for Winter Solider to kill him and his followers. As Charles tries to talk him out of this, Bucky stabs him in the chest….
