Synopsis

Domination Factor: Avengers #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Continued from DOMINATION FACTOR: FANTASTIC FOUR #3.

During the War, Captain America and Bucky are prevented by the (original) Human Torch from detonating the explosives to destroy the Nazis' invasion tunnel under the English Channel. Cap, his mind sent back from the future to recover a slice of the Golden Apple, learns that the Torch facing him is possessed by the Vision, whose body was constructed from that of the Torch. Cap sets off the detonator while Torch finds the apple slice in a chest of Nazi loot and they are both restored to their own time. Contemporary Cap and Bucky are rescued by Nick Fury and a submarines....

Praxis CEO Nora Queen is dying and her doctors can to nothing to save her. Lester, her lackey, carries her out into the Swiss mountain climate where time is frozen, prolonging her life....

In old Asgard, Thor escapes from Loki's trap while the Trickster shows him what is transpiring back in the palace: Knorda, Queen of the Mountain Giants, has betrayed her own people to gain Odin's favor. The All-Father cuts one of Iduna's apples into nine slices; Knorda eats one, gaining immortality, and is sent to Midgard to found a kingdom, with the remaining apple slices turned to gold for permanence. Thor races after her to rescue her from an ambush by a pair of Mountain Giants. She rebuffs his aid and races off, dropping one of the apple slices which Thor picks up and is returned to his future. But the Thor of that day is mortally wounded by the giants who Loki turns to wood (becoming the Harbingers of Everlasting Winter seen in the two issue #1s of this series). Hela (Goddess of Death) claims Thor's spirit and Iduna, trying to save his life, unwittingly seals his body within a tree....

The astral forms of the Avengers meet up with Dr Strange who takes the apple slices and puts them all together before vanishing. Thor's spirit also vanishes, along with his frozen body. The other Avengers also try to reunite with their bodies but, like the Fantastic Four, they cannot, finding themselves in an alternate version of New York. They meet up with the astral FF and Reed Richards thinks that Thor was the one who accidentally triggered the change. But suddenly, none of the Avengers or FF can remember Thor....

At Praxis HQ, Nora Queen is transformed into her true identity of Queen Knorda and her sly assistant Lester turns out to have been Loki all along and has now created a world for her to rule, one without superheroes....

[Story also features Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Invisible Woman, Thing, and Human Torch but they didn't make it into the synopsis.]

Domination Factor: Avengers #3 Review by (December 10, 2018)

Review: See DOMINATION FACTOR: FANTASTIC FOUR #1.

Comments: Issue 3:6 of overall series. Dan Jurgens, writer of the companion series is credited as “Co-conspirator.” Captain America is occupying a previously unrecorded WW2-era adventure. Thor's visit is to JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #109 (second story). The new version of NYC has a cameo by a couple who closely resemble Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.
