Synopsis

Fantastic Four / Iron Man: Big in Japan (2005 series) #3 synopsis by reviewer T Vernon
Rating: 3 stars

The Fantastic Four and Iron Man, with Dr. Yamane, travel to the Arctic to deal with the “apocalypse beast” trying to break through into our world, as Reed Richards had promised Grogg. They discover the long lost underground base of the Kayama expedition and Human Torch melts their way through the ice barrier to discover a massive structure that looks like an amalgamation of several living creatures. Inside, the group discovers the Kaa, a race of two-dimensional creatures, who have been waiting for the completion of the gate and the Great Tearing, allowing the beast, which is their deity, into the world. Dr. Yamane reveals that the Kayama expedition was a cult that worshipped Kaiju  and one member fled in panic, preventing the god from arriving. That man was Yamane’s father and he is here to take his place. The mad scientist leaps into the gap left in the summoning machine and time and space start to warp around them. Reality tears open and a giant monster enters, stepping on Yamane and terrifying the others. Reed speculates that they must enter the monster. Thing rips open a pore and Iron Man, with his protective armor, crawls in. Invisible Woman creates a protective suit out of her force field and goes in with Shellhead. Reed then prepares to calculate the monster’s destination but a surprising figure appears: Mole Man, riding on a giant flying creature, directs them to Monster Island….
