Synopsis

Fear Itself: Fearsome Four #4 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Howard the Duck recalls how he was rescued from the Nexus of All Realities by Man-Thing and was entrusted with the Absolute Annihilator, a weapon similar to the Ultimate Nullifier, which he calls the No-Thing. But now that he needs to use it against the menacing Man-Thing, it isn’t working, and Manny is growing in fear power, threatening to set Manhattan aflame. So Howard joins the other members of the Fearsome Four (She-Hulk, Nighthawk, Frankenstein Monster) in fighting the threat the hard way. But they can’t defeat Man-Thing who is now threatening the Nexus of All Realities. Howard realizes that since the No-Thing only works if the wielders are brave, they must overcome their own fears for it to work. And so the Nexus shows them their fears….

Nighthawk is confronted by a gang of punks threatening him. He realizes he can’t hide from his fears by terrorizing his enemies….

The Frankenstein Monster sees himself burned at the stake by a mob of superheroes and, knowing he can’t die, he still has the potential to learn his purpose on the Earth….

She-Hulk is in a cemetery for superheroes and discovers she is the only one left. But instead of giving up, she commits herself to continuing the fight….

And Howard doesn’t need the Nexus; he knows what he fears: killing Man-Thing, one of his only friends left. With the Fearsome Four backing him, Howard aims the No-Thing and…decides he doesn’t need it. He has realized that the Four’s worry about defeating Manny is what has enabled Manny to grow so powerful. And so, their fears conquered, the Four watch as Man-Thing shrinks back to his normal size and the teammates depart for more urgent matters, leaving Howard and Man-Thing. Then Manny dissolves back to where he came from, leaving Howard alone…and without fear….
