Synopsis

Heroes Reborn #7 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Flashback to Civil War: Hyperion and Nighthawk, the latter bonded with the Symbiote, are fighting over the Superhero Registration act and also vying for the affections of Power Princess….

Now the Squadron Supreme has gathered, Hyperion, Nighthawk, Power Princess, Blur, and Doctor Spectrum, to discuss the mysterious Avengers and the occasional feelings they have that something isn’t quite right. They find the spot in the Arctic where a body was recently removed, Rocket Raccoon’s starship but no sign of Starbrand, and discover the existence of a new Phoenix, Jean Grey having been killed by Zarda years ago, over which the Squadron fought Wolverine and Alpha Flight. Spectrum finds some energy traces that resemble the now-lost Vibranium which points to the mythical Wakanda. Zarda and Blur go to Ravenscroft Asylum to question Green Goblin about Echo, the new Phoenix. Norman pushes Zarda too far by talking about her dead race so she punches his heart out and they leave. Brief flashback to the Goblin’s run for President of the US and then to Whizzer trading his marriage to Mary Jane in a deal with Mephisto….

The Squadron gathers in Wakanda—and they find themselves face-to-face with the assembled Avengers: Captain America, Thor, Black Panther, Phoenix/Echo, Blade, and the new Starbrand….

Review / Commentaries

Heroes Reborn #7 Review by (June 16, 2021)

Review: Another entertaining issue…until I realized there wasn’t any real plot here. It’s the “final” issue (HEROES RETURN next week will actually wrap up the story) yet nothing seems to have happened. The previous six issues were merely individual showcases for the Squadron Supreme members and all that built up to was to have them feel mildly uncomfortable and hear rumors of gathering Avengers. That’s where we started in issue #1 and that’s pretty much where this issue begins. Then there are major developments! The Squadron finally meets the Avengers! And Mephisto is behind it all (hinted at in issue #4)! Yeah, the art and writing were great but the only entertainment came from identifying altered characters and events like this is just an update of Amalgam Comics (Google it if you don’t know). It was amusing and almost interesting but the whole plot looks like it is going to be crammed into the next and final issue. We’ll see if I’m right next week.

Comments: Various characters mentioned or briefly appearing without making it into the synopses include Punisher, the Brood, Doc Samson, Skrull, Rocket Raccoon, Groot (killed by Hyperion), Black Cat, Howard Stark (discoverer of Vibranium), Silver Witch (murdered by Green Goblin), Sentry, Moon Knight, Valkyrie, Nova, Ghost Runner, and President Nick Fury.

Comments on tie-ins by RobFJ:-

This week's tie-in does connect with the current issue because that does mention this conflict in passing.

Weapon X & Final Flight

2 years prior Weapon X (Logan) with Alpha Flight killed Hyperion in revenge for the death of Phoenix/Jean Grey after the Squadron Supreme led a US invasion of Canada. Now the Nighthawk's back with the army looking for the rebels, specifically Logan. Sasquatch believes they should stop fighting a lost war and give themselves up for the sake of the Canadian civilians, so he quits. Later he returns with news of political prisoners being moved to the US for execution. The Flight attack the convoy but the Squadron, including recovered Hyperion, are waiting for them. It was a trap arranged by Sasquatch for the Squad to take Logan and let the others go free. Hype severely damages Weapon X, and Dr Spectrum flies him to an airless dead planet to see if his healing factor can cope with *that*.
