Sonia and her mother drive Clay Cortez and the kids, along
with Wolverine and Bruce Banner, back to shore. The men make plans while Clay
assures the kids Logan and Hulk are heroes while he is motivated by love for
his family. On shore they are attacked by one of Dr. Alba’s humanoids which
seizes Logan and Banner; as Clay takes on his Weapon H/Hulkverine form to fight
it, the monster teleports away. Clay wants to take his family to safety but the
kids shame him into rescuing the other two heroes….
At Shadow Base, the Leader and Dr. Aliana Alba enjoy working
together as they have Logan and Bruce Banner captive, using nanobots to sever
their spinal cords to keep them helpless. They throw the switch which
transforms Hulk and Logan into Hulkverines, motivated by blind fury and, once
their spines are reconnected, out of control. They are teleported to a Shadow
Base nuclear reactor and dropped from the sky; the automatic defenses open fire
and the Hulkverines destroy everything and then spot each other and begin
fighting….
A call goes out to the Avengers and Captain America and
Black Widow arrive, lamenting the fact that they couldn’t get in touch with Thor,
Captain Marvel, or Dr. Strange. As they begin to make plans, Weapon H shows up
and tells them he will take care of it. H leaps into the middle and a three-way
fight commences, Leader and Alba watching from a safe distance. Then H runs
toward the mad scientists, firing a claw that wrecks Leader’s teleportation
device. Hulk and Logan leap to the attack and Dr. Alba simply drains off their
nanobots, returning them to normal. She then sprays the bots into Weapon H’s
face, stripping away the higher functions, including memories of his family.
But Clay has learned to control the nanobots and turns on Leader and Alba…but
by this time Leader has repaired his teleporter and he blinks them away. The
heroes return to where Cap and Natasha are waiting. Clay greets his family and
assures him he will always be there for them. Cap request that Alpha Flight
sent in a team to clean up the reactor but they won’t need a containment team….
Bruce and Logan go for a beer; Leader and Alba watch from a
distance and realize they are in love and kiss….
