The Requiem Plain Part Two

Synopsis

Incredible Hulk (2023 series) #29 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

On Requiem Plan, birthplace of all monsters, Betty Ross leads Hulk. They come to a series of petrified monsters and Hulk leaps atop a stone head and looks inside to see monsters fighting. Betty points to Fielaksil, Keeper of Lost Knowledge and invites Hulk to ask what he wants to know….

And we see the origin of monsters: When the Earth was new, inhabited solely by gods, a darkness grew in the ocean depths, spawning monsters, changing everything. The god who created all came down and created a monster to kill all others. This god sought the darkness but the darkness entered into him and he became the One Below All. This god tortured the Mother of Horrors and sealed her away behind a door no one could open but him. The inhabitants built a city around the door. Betty tells Hulk he is the only one to open the door as he carries the green fire. They come upon Doctor Voodoo, bound upside-down to a huge stone arrow. Hulk tries to free him but the bonds are alive and fight back. Hulk defeats them and Voodoo explains that Eldest wants to make a Fractured Son (Hulk) of her own by draining gamma from other mutates. They come upon a huge spider called one of the Arachnis Midwives with he kidnapped gamma people impaled on its long legs. Hulk spots Betty among them so the “Betty” who has been his guide reveals herself as the Eldest who transforms into the Red Harpy and attacks Hulk. She presses him back against the spider, whose legs enter Hulk’s body. She spits poison in Hulk’s face, burning it severely. Hulk smashes Red Harpy and the spider moves its legs into her to drain her blood. But Eldest has taken the green fire from Hulk and her monster emerges from the spider’s enormous womb, resembling the Abomination, ready to kill Hulk and usher in the Age of Monsters….

Incredible Hulk (2023 series) #29 Review by (September 17, 2025)

Review: Well, it looks like this series is winding down as Marvel has big plans for the Infernal Hulk following this plus a lot of related material as well. As for this issue, everything is getting darker and crazier as we wander through a Hellscape not unlike the Hulkscape of Al Ewing. The comic has kept up a nice consistent quality of writing and art, even with the frequent change of artists, with Nic Klein’s covers holding it all together. And this will continue, apparently spilling out into the wider Marvel Universe. Can’t wait.

Comments: Story concludes with a text article by the Eldest on the Mother of Horrors part two. Issue includes a tribute to the late Jim Shooter, legendary comic book writer and editor.
