Though This Fault Be Mine...

Synopsis

Iron Man #186 synopsis by T Vernon
Rating: 3 stars
The new business partners—Tony Stark, James Rhodes, Clytemnestra and Morley Erwin—are surveying the land where their company headquarters will be build when a tremor shakes the ground....
Several miles away, Professor Vibereaux is testing a new device which will absorb seismic energies and prevent earthquakes. Vibereaux balks at testing it during an active tremor but his financial backer Franklin Fortney bullies him into descending into the fault. Another tremor happens and Vibereaux is lost in the depths of the Earth—and Fortney shrugs it off as a necessary risk....
Days later, a mad and superpowered Vibreaux, now calling himself Vibro, emerges from the ground and learns that Fortney is a hostage of terrorists on an oil rig and heads there seeking revenge against the industrialist. Rhodey also hears of the terrorist incident and flies out to the scene as Iron Man. Approaching underwater, Shellhead bursts up through the platform and vanquishes the baddies before they know what has hit them. Then Vibro arrives on shore and directs a seismic blast that destroys the rig, plunging everyone into the water. Iron Man rescues the hostages and accepts a $1000 payoff to fly Fortney to shore. Once there, Iron Man confronts Vibro who assumes that the hero works for Fortney and blasts the ground, burying the hero alive; Shellhead, overpowered for this adventure, bursts up and punches the villain out with a bared fist....
Back at the motel, Tony offers to fix up Iron Man's gauntlets and Rhodey doesn't know why seeing Tony with the Iron Man gear makes him crazy....
In jail, Vibro sees Fortney and Iron Man together on the news and vows vengeance against them both—as he starts to vibrate....

Review / Commentaries

Iron Man #186 Review by (May 16, 2016)
Comments: Part one of two parts. First appearance/origin of Vibro. And the title has a pun in it; n'yuk, n'yuk.

Review: Okay story, just not very interesting. The new villain Vibro seems already familiar: a generic origin (absorbing earth tremors) just gives him the powers of Spidey's Shocker, his revenge motive is one-dimensional, his ugly face is nothing special. Hope something perks up in part two (no such luck).
