Story Name:

Fear Itself, Part 2

Synopsis

Iron Man 2.0 #6 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
Steve Rogers, Sharon Carter and Maria Hill are monitoring events, including Sin/Skadi's attack on Washington in Fear Itself #2-3. Sharon notes that something is happening in Beijing that seems to be beyond the other hammerfall events in FI#1-2. They can't contact Iron Fist, so Steve puts in a call to Dr Strange.

In the 8th City (hell/prison) of Heaven, Monkey King fails to lift the hammer that has fallen there. But he still doesn't join the rest of the occupants heading to Earth (and Beijing) through the recently opened (presumably by the falling hammer) gateway.

Iron Man 2.0 and John Aman were transported to Beijing last issue, where they are now fighting demons from the 8th City. They are joined by Aman's fellow Immortal Warriors Fat Cobra, Bride of Nine Spiders, Dog Brother #1 and Tiger's Beautiful Daughter. And they unearth another Warrior, Iron Fist, from rubble.

Last issue we saw him confront Absorbing Man and Titania/Skirn. They were looking for the hammer. They've now entered the 8th City, and fight Monkey King for it. Iron Man 2.0 and the Immortal Warriors join in.

James Rhodes is confused by the transformed hammer-wielding Titania. He obviously doesn't know about the effects of the hammers. But he's about to find out as Absorbing Man grabs the latest hammer and becomes Greithoth, Breaker of Wills. And the shockwave knocks all the heroes out.

Dr Strange, in astral form, has answered Steve Roger's summons. He tells him about the 8th City opening and spewing demons. He expects the Immortal Weapons will be on hand. But he also predicts that Iron Fist will be the problem, not the solution.

Review / Commentaries

Iron Man 2.0 #6 Review by (January 16, 2013)
This is part 2 of the 3-issue sidetrack into Fear Itself. Carmine Di Giandomenico and Matt Wilson illustrate the Steve Rogers prologue and epilogue. Absorbing Man is a long-time foe of Thor (and others) since Journey into Mystery #114. Titania's origin was in the 1st Secret Wars, where she also started her relationship with Absorbing Man. Both have mainly been super-powered criminals without megalomaniacal ambitions. But Crusher Creel did try to absorb Odin's power in JiM#123. And Titania had an Infinity Gem in She-Hulk (2004) #9-12. When we return next issue we will find that Absorbing Man and Titania have left to reappear in FI#3 and Avengers Academy #15.
