Story Name:

Palmer Addley Is Dead, Part 2

Synopsis

Iron Man 2.0 #2 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
An Arab woman is forced to bring a strap-on terrorist bomb to the fence of Camp Liberty in Baghdad. Two experts remove it and take it for safe detonation. But then one of them says "Palmer Addley is dead", and sets the bomb off in the admin building.

War Machine interrupts a lecture given by his old associate Suzi Endo. He asks the computer tech expert to come work with his team at Mackelroy Base looking into the terrorist acts connected to Palmer Addley. Suzi links her sophisticated kit up with Kaylie Harrison at the base, and tracks the bomb plot back to a place in Russia. But Suzi reminds Jim that she doesn't want to work with him anymore.

War Machine heads to the Russian base. He gets another team member Mike Zelinsky to contact Dmitri Bukharin for permission to enter Russian airspace. Zelinsky speculates whether James and Suzi had been lovers. Rhodey won't say.

The Russian base holds nuclear weapons. But all WM finds is loads of bodies pinned to a wall. Then he chases the only living person on the base, but his armour is crippled by what Suzi says is a nanobot infection. The man tells Rhodey to take back the message "Palmer Addley is dead".

Rhodes tries to get out of the base (slowly) using his suit's emergemcy hydraulics. Suzi tells him to hurry, but he's caught in a nuclear explosion.

Review / Commentaries

Iron Man 2.0 #2 Review by (October 17, 2012)
Dmitri Bukharin was one version of Crimson Dynamo. He is now a fairly senior in the Russian military. He helped Iron Man get into Russia in IM (2008) #14. War Machine met Suzi Endo during the Crossing crossover between the Avengers, Force Works, Iron Man and War Machine series. She later worked directly with him during Secret Invasion in War Machine: Weapon of SHIELD. She quit because of his methods in Dark Reign: New Nation, but he persuaded her back onto his team for his Dark Reign series. She must have quit again since then. There was no indication at the time that they were lovers. But it now seems they were. Suzi leaves this title for now, but will be back in the 2nd half of the Palmer Addley story after Fear Itself. Sometime around here she gets involved with Silver Surfer and High Evolutionary, and briefly becomes a cosmic herald called Seeker, in the Silver Surfer (2011) mini-series. One page near the end of this issue was the 1st page of the Iron Man 2.0 Prologue in IM#500. The rest of that prologue interleaves with next issue. Next issue War Machine will actually *become* Iron Man 2.0.
