Synopsis

Marvel's Iron Man 2 Adaptation #1 synopsis by T Vernon
Rating: 3 stars
One night, Tony Stark opens the Stark Expo by making a dramatic entrance as Iron Man...

…the next day he faces a Senate hearing into whether he should turn the Iron Man armor over to the government. Defense contractor Justin Hammer testifies against Tony while Lt. Col. James Rhodes is required to narrate a series of film showing that other countries are failing in their attempts to create their own military armor. Villain Ivan Vanko watches and plots revenge….

Tony learns that his arc reactor’s Palladium core is killing him; concerned with his health, he makes Pepper Potts CEO of the company. Later, he dares Rhodey to join him in flying one of the armored suits. He meets Natalie Rushton from the Legal Department and is smitten. Natalie enters the boxing ring with Happy Hogan and clobbers him. Tony makes Natalie his new assistant….

At the Monaco Grand Prix, Tony surprises everyone by planning to drive his own race car. But Whiplash steps out onto the track and slices Tony’s car in half with his electric whip. Happy and Pepper rush out there to toss Tony his briefcase, allowing him to suit up and take on the villain as Iron Man. Iron Man defeats him and Whiplash (Ivan Vanko) is arrested….

The following night, Vanko escapes from prison and joins Justin Hammer….

Tony, celebrating his birthday, gets drunk and shows off in the armor. Rhodey dons the silver armor and tries to persuade Tony to calm down. They fire at each other and Tony goes down. Rhodey flies off to deliver the armor to the US Military….

Review / Commentaries

Marvel's Iron Man 2 Adaptation #1 Review by (October 7, 2022)
Comments: “Marvel Cinematic Universe official tie-in”—Cover. Originally produced as a digital exclusive for Marvel Unlimited. Based on the screenplay by Justin Theroux. Will Corona Pilgrim is credited in assisting with the writing.

Review: Okay adaptation of the second film is a bit dry though Christos Gage does a decent job of condensing the movie into a pair of 22-page comic books. A few scenes are cut short, sometimes the narrative moves in a clunky manner but those are the pitfalls of this sort of project; the film script wasn’t written with a comic book in mind. Marvel didn’t pay to license the actors’ likenesses so everyone looks a bit generic. But it’s all kind of okay (wow, what praise!).
