Synopsis

Marvel 1985 #6 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

1985: Jerry and Julie spy Galactus who is building his elemental converter to feed on Earth. Then the van is surrounded by several villains, including Lizard, Mole Man, Doctor Octopus, Mandarin, and Mr. Hyde. Doc Ock grasps Jerry by the throat—and then a red, white, and blue shield severs his metal tentacle. The heroes have arrived, led by Toby. The boy calls out, “Avengers assemble!” then apologizes to Captain America for stealing his line. Jerry brings Toby into the van as they head off to finish the matter….

1964: As the townspeople led by the reanimated corpse of Clyde’s father surround the family home, Mrs. Wyncham accuses young Jerry of using some sort of power to bring them; Clyde reveals that he is the one with the power but he doesn’t know how to control them. Mom hits him over the head with a candlestick, breaking the spell and sending Clyde to a psychiatric hospital for the rest of his life….

Jerry returns to the Wyncham house, bringing Clyde the comic books that were stolen from him and pleading with him to calm the anger which led him to call out the comic book baddies to take his revenge on the town. Red Skull shoots Jerry and Clyde mentally hurls him out of the window. He tells everybody to go home now and the villains all depart in an orderly fashion. Julie begs Clyde to bring Jerry back to life but Clyde says that he promised his mother he would never do that again….

2008 : Toby Goodman writes about the events of that time, explaining how the authorities covered everything up and the guy at the comic book store threw a fit over the cache of valuable comics being stolen while the town was evacuated. The Avengers agreed to take Clyde back with them where he could be cared for properly. Toby went to England with his Mom and stepfather and it opened up a whole new successful life for him. And as for his Dad? The heroes took him back with them too, Dr. Don Blake saved his life and Jerry began a romance with his first crush Jane Foster, finally living in the only place he could ever call home. Excelsior!
