New Avengers Annual #3 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Story continues from DARK REIGN: THE LIST—AVENGERS.

After his capture by Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers, Clint (Ronin) Barton awakens a prisoner aboard the H.A.M.M.E.R. Helicarrier surrounded by his enemies. Osborn wants to know where the Avengers are hiding and uses every type of "persuasion" to make Clint talk….

At the hideout, Clint’s wife Mockingbird awakens and discovers that he went off to carry out his scheme of assassinating Norman Osborn. Ms. Marvel and Spider-Woman find her in tears and learn what has happened. Avengers Tower is experiencing a lot of activity and they wonder what is going on….

During the interrogation, Venom bites Clint on the shoulder and he throws himself backward, knocking his enemy against the wall and then manages to kick the bow out of the fake Hawkeye’s (Bullseye) hand. At this point he is felled by a blow from the Sentry and Osborn calls for his special guest….

Mockingbird dons her costume and intends to rescue her husband from the enemy; she is joined by Spider-Woman, Ms. Marvel, and, after she arranges for a babysitter, Jessica Jones. Aboard the Helicarrier, Clint awakens in his cell where he finds a bow with an explosive arrow. He uses this to blast open the door and escape. Suddenly he finds himself at the scene of his death in battle against the Kree (AVENGERS #502)—it turns out his mind is being manipulated by Mentallo, Osborn’s psychic expert, who is forcing him to relive his nightmares to weaken him enough to access the secrets in his brain. And it works—Mentallo extracts the address of the Avengers’ safe house. The Dark Avengers head out there in force, making an explosive entry into the building—which is empty. Daken, with his sensitive smell, knows that their quarry was there an hour earlier. So where are they now?

The four women Avengers (with Jessica in her old Jewel costume) are aboard the H.A.M.M.E.R. Helicarrier, beating a bloody path through the ship in search of their captured colleague. As Mentallo is trying to learn the Avengers’ true identities from Clint’s brain, Mockingbird bursts in and kicks the mutant mind reader in the face. As the Dark Avengers leave the scene, some guards left behind spot Spider-Man spying on them and open fire. Spidey heads over to the other secret hideout where Clint is apologizing for his foolish action which endangered the team. Bucky is upset, realizing that Steve Rogers will be mad about what happened. To their surprise Steve, in his Captain America costume, walks in and announces they are about to do something about the situation….
