Story Name:

Thor & Loki: The Tenth Realm, Part Two of Five

Synopsis

Original Sin 5.n - Thor and Loki #2 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Like the last issue the story opens with a glimpse of a hut in a wood in an inaccessible place. This time we move closer to the hut and see inside a shadowy figure sitting before a game board….

Meanwhile, the Guardians of the Galaxy are battling warpjackers (rich kids thrill-riding one-man ships to cause fatal accidents). A strange sound of thunder echoes and Angela senses (with help from Evil Loki) that the door to her home has opened. She immediately deserts her comrades and takes off for the Tenth Realm

…where Thor and Loki greet the lovely lady warriors—but as soon as they mention they are from Asgard they are under attack from the Angels of Heven. A messenger informs the Queen (who takes time to scold the messenger to never reveal information without being paid first) of this incursion by their old enemies. Loki has deserted Thor who with one hurled hammer shoots down both of the attacking dreadnaught ships. Back in the throne room the Queen suddenly finds Loki holding a sword to her throat; recognizing him as one of the Frost Giants, who are the Angels’ allies, she invites him to sit down and barter for their lives. Outside Thor asks about his sister and the Angels suddenly realize he must mean Angela—who has now arrived, ready to kill this invader of her home….

Original Sin 5.n - Thor and Loki #2 Review by (July 30, 2014)
Review: The story starts to get interesting as we see the Tenth Realm—Heven—in detail for the first time. Unusual characterization for the Angels, a race of warrior women greedy for money, sort of a cross between Amazons and Ferengi. Writer Ewing keeps the story jumping, providing his usual crisp and amusing dialogue without letting the story becomes a comedy. The guest appearance by the Guardians of the Galaxy is pretty cool (oh, I wonder if they have a movie coming out soon? Heh heh). The only problem is the art in the Heven scenes: Simone Bianchi’s work seems too dark and brooding when the plot doesn’t call for it. Everything is too heavily shaded (and with dark muted colors) for what one would imagine the home of the Angels looks like. That will take a bit of getting used to. So: fine story, okay art, let’s see where this goes. (We know where it goes: Thor will disgrace himself and be replaced by Ms. Thor.)

Comments: Gamora is absent from the Guardians of the Galaxy.
