To Hold Back a Black Hole

Synopsis

Secret Avengers #32 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

While battling on the wing of the one plane that escaped from Bagalia, Black Widow is hypnotized by the possessed Hawkeye and comes under the power of the Abyss. She then tries to convince the Cairo airport to let them land, claiming they were damaged in a terrorist attack but Cairo denies them permission to land….

While Venom fights the possessed Valkyrie, Ant-Man (actually the Eric O’Grady LMD) tries to snatch the Crown from Taskmaster but he is caught and blasted by the bad guy. Venom and Val plunge from a window and hit the ground where they are surrounded by possessed villains. As Venom tries to ward off Carrion, Ant-Man is stabbed in the back by Scarecrow. Max Fury comes to Ant-Man’s aid, shooting down Scarecrow and carrying the wounded (LMD) to safety, hoping he will make things all right for Max with Father (of the Descendants) but Ant-Man is then tossed around by Whiplash and Vengeance and thrown out of the window where he lands beside Venom. And the U-Foes and the Wrecking Crew arrive….

The airliner lands in Cairo and is surrounded by Egyptian military forces….

Beaten down and surrounded by the bad guys, Flash has the Symbiote cover Taskmaster, cancelling out the effect of the Crown all over Bagalia and the world. But Venom (with the Crown), Ant-Man, and Max Fury are surrounded by the regular, non-possessed bad guys and facing death, when they are teleported back to Lighthouse Station by Hawkeye. Black Widow, and Valkyrie….

Later, the team assembles with Hank Pym and Captain Britain present to talk over the recent adventure. The Crown has been broken down into its three pieces and hidden around the world. Max Fury is locked up. Hawkeye thanks Flash and Eric for saving the day, Hank questions why the Crown didn’t work on Ant-Man, and Black Widow comes forward to tell them that “Eric” is an LMD under the control of the Descendants. No one believes her and she leaves in a huff. Captain Britain tells them that the Descendants are planning something but Hawkeye is too tired to listen. Later, Valkyrie and Flash Thompson have sex while the Ant-Man LMD, now calling himself Black Ant, reports back to Father….

Secret Avengers #32 Review by (November 30, 2021)

Review: Nice, enjoyable wrap-up to the story arc hit all the right notes, Venom saved the day, Black Ant plots against them, a lot of fights, and more. The next story arc, whoever, brings us back to the Descendants, a villain team that seems to have more members than the X-Man and I therefore face it with trepidation.

Comments: Part four of four parts. Final appearance of the Abyss to date (2021).
