Synopsis

Silver Surfer #69 synopsis by Rob Johnson
Rating: 4 stars
Galactus, Dr Strange, Silver Surfer and Nova (Frankie Raye) are travelling between dimensions seeking the origin of a mystic energy that has rendered Eternity comatose, and is also appearing on many planets in the Galaxy including on Monster Island on Earth from where they have tracked it. But last issue Galactus' spherical spaceship was savaged by mechanical wolves and he sent Nova and Surfer out to fight them. But then the wolves' master turned up and told the duo he wants the ship.

Galactus' current and ex-Heralds refuse his demand so he shoots them with a powerful weapon and sets the dogs on them. Frankie is quickly surrounded and the master stops Norrin Radd going to her aid. While they fight Surfer explains that they are on a mission to save their universe and the villain counters that he needs their ship to escape this dimensional corridor and return to *his* universe. Meanwhile a hound snaps the tether which connects Nova to the ship and she starts to drift away.

Time for an interlude. In #67 we saw that Nebula was in a vegetative state on Titan being looked after by her faithful Geatar. Now Geatar steals a spacecraft and escapes with his mistress.

It is the foe who saves Nova by grabbing her tether line and then persuades Surfer to take him into the ship or he'll leave her to float forever in this non-dimension. Inside they all join Galactus and Dr Strange. The villain introduces himself as Khoon The Explorer, claims the ship and tells the other to leave it. Stephen Strange starts a mystic attack but Khoon just blasts him. Galactus pretends to be outmatched and asks Khoon for his life-story.

He was the greatest explorer in his dimension, and after exploring every corner there he set out into this dimensional corridor intending to visit other planes of existence. But his ship couldn't withstand the stresses here and it fell apart. He was safe in his armour and used the debris of his ship to fashion his 'hounds'. They explored the corridor and found many exits, and a map of the whole place is stored in his battlesuit. But without a ship he couldn't pass through the portals.

Galactus has learned what he needs to know. Now he easily defeats Khoon and embeds him and his armour into the navigational system. Dr Strange recovers and Big G says that with this added knowledge they'll soon find the way to their intended destination. And we see them symbolically flying into the mouth of Magus.

In another interlude we see an unnamed planet and a castle wherein many men are being tortured. Their torturer, who next issue we will learn is named Morg, chooses 1 and chops his head off.
