In the wilderness, young Loki meets with the Weird Sisters to present them with the lock of hair he stole from Sif (last issue) in exchange for the key to saving Thor’s life. They ask him to return at moonrise….

In space the two near-omnipotent beings Galactus and Odin prepare to battle while the Aesir fight off the cosmic demons summoned by the World-Eater to prevent their distracting the All-Father. As Thor takes on the Silver Surfer, the battle between the two gods becomes a mental one, with Odin forcing Galactus to relive his mortal days as the scientist Galan, increasingly aware of the imminent destruction of his universe. In turn, Odin is drawn back to his youth and the presence of his long-exiled brother, the Serpent, during at time of famine and despair in his homelands….

Near Broxton, Loki encounters Volstagg who is preparing for war against the townspeople, while Pastor Mike and members of his congregation drive around the outskirts of Asgard and demand that the gods leave….

Back in space, Thor surprises the Surfer by zooming past him and crashing into Galactus’ temple, clacking his helmet. Thor is hurled to the surface of Mars with the Silver Surfer in pursuit; on landing the Thunder God challenges his foe to a final battle….

At moonrise, Loki returns to the Weird Sisters and is presented with the gifts he sought: a pair of gloves and a very long thin thread….

Review / Commentaries

The Mighty Thor #4 Review by (August 8, 2012)
Review: A pretty good issue, being one long cosmic fight scene. Hard to mess these up. Loki is cool; it’s a shame they couldn’t do anything to improve the character of Volstagg, who has been a total jackass since he was introduced in 1965—he’s the one who needs a revamp, not Loki.

Comments: Brief cameos by Hogun and Fandral. In Odin’s memory, the first appearance of the Serpent, anticipating FEAR ITSELF.
