Greer “Tigra” Nelson watches a TV show on Captain America and
ponders how her career in the Avengers doesn’t seme to have amounted to much.
She meets with Officer Brian Keenan who thanks her for her efforts to shut down
the Brethren of the Blue Fist. He tells her they have the DNA results on Chief
Morrison’s murder (end of issue #1) and it may be the same man who killed her
husband Bill. She vows to get him but what Keenan doesn’t tell her is that the
suspect, Commander Weising, is an undercover cop sent to infiltrate the
Brethren….
That night, the Brethren ambush a noted activist but it’s a trap
and the “victim” is Officer Keenan in disguise. Greer is there among the
Brethren and all is chaos; Keenan is shot and dies in Greer’s arms….
Tigra follows Weising to the cemetery where he stands over her
husband’s grave, confessing how the undercover job is difficult but he is doing
his best. Greer approaches him and Weising, thinking she is one of the Blue
Fists, attacks her. He accuses her of disgracing the grave of the man who
created the Blue Fists for honorable reasons but others perverted his vision.
Greer is unable to tell him Bill Nelson was her husband but she tries to reach
her amulet to transform into Tigra…but Matt McMullin arrives and shoots
Weising. McMullin reveals that he knew who she was all along and now he can
frame her and Weising as the leaders of the Brethren of the Blue Fist and kill
them, making himself the hero of the day. But there’s one thing he hadn’t
counted on: she turns into Tigra and chases him around the cemetery. McMullin
confesses to killing her husband who founded the Brethren for honorable reasons
but when he saw the group hijacked as an organization of vigilante killers he
was going to expose them so McMullin killed him. She catches him, tears him up
a bit, and then delivers him to the police. Greer fills us in on what happens
next: Weising recovers, provides evidence against McMullin who informs on the
rest of the group….
And Greer graduates from the Police Academy to join the force and
Steve Rogers shows up to the ceremony to congratulate and encourage her. She
tells her husband that the weight of his death is finally lifted from her
shoulders and now with a new beginning she can serve as a cop named Tigra….
