Wolverine Weapon X #12 Review by (December 28, 2021)

Review: A brilliant idea: a world-controlling corporation sends cyborg assassins back in time to assassinate the future leader of the resistance against them! Too bad James Cameron came up with it first! But, as my old pal Scott Benson, always said, “If you’re going to steal, steal from the best.” The story arc really takes off with part 2 as the situation and the stakes are laid out and future Logan goes to his apparently final death. And the jumping back and forth between two time periods is still easy to follow. So all is well for now.

Comments: The alternate future where Roxxon rules is Earth-10511.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Wolverine Weapon X #12 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Future: the resistance against the all-powerful Roxxon Corporation meets in a secret base beneath Howlett’s Bookstore. The leader, an older Miranda Bayer, reports that they were unable to prevent the Deathloks from killing Frank Castle, the Punisher, and the number of heroes is dwindling. A report comes in that Roxxon is preparing to jump back through time and Bayer assembles her team; the General is unable to come but he sends Wolverine in his place, an aging, handless shadow of his former self. She recalls how it all started….

Present: Miranda Bayer, a young waitress, had dreams of a Roxxon conquest of Earth and tries to warn a skeptical Wolverine that the Deathloks are coming from the future to wipe out any possible candidates for being the mysterious leader of the resistance in their day, known only as the General. Miranda tells Logan that their main target is Captain America: Bucky Barnes….

Bucky is having a drink in a bar when the Deathloks gather outside and blow the place to bits with their gunfire. Entering, they find Bucky has descended into a hole in the floor, coming out in the subway. He calls to the crowd to run as the Deathloks arrive. Logan also appears on the scene, directed by Miranda and her flashes of the future. There is a brutal battle, the two heroes against an army of cyborgs. One of them, designated Deathlok Prime, confronts Wolverine but since he is not authorized to kill him, blows a huge hole in him instead. Then Deathlok Prime, his damaged brain split into the bloodthirsty human side and the logical computer side, recognizes Miranda as the future resistance leader but the divided brain causes it to freeze up and a boy rescues Miranda, a boy she recognizes as her future right-hand man Wakowski. Logan asks why the cyborg declined to kill him; Miranda explains that it’s because in the future they had already killed him….

Future: Bayer and her team infiltrate the lab where Roxxon has its time portal ready. Logan attacks the Deathloks and is shot down by them then sprayed with acid which melts away everything but the Adamantium on his bones. Bayer leads a charge….
