Synopsis

Wolverine Weapon X #14 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Future: A vicious serial killer is sprung from prison to be part of a Roxxon experiment, the first step of which involves shooting him in the head. When he wakes up he is a cyborg called Deathlok Prime and Roxxon is celebrating. His killing instincts controlled by a computer, he is dispatched to execute Roxxon’s enemies. He was present when Wolverine was killed (issue #12) and stood firm as the resistance attacked, his human mind exulting in the number of people he has killed….

Present: Deathlok Prime approaches Miranda Bayer with murder on its mind but the AI freezes up when it gets too close to her. Wolverine and Captain America (Bucky Barnes) rush to her rescue and battle the killer cyborg. Miranda tries to run with Wakowski but Deathlok Prime summons two more of his kind to the scene and they go after the fleeing Miranda//in the future, Bayer sends Wakowski to bomb the Roxxon time portal but young Evan Wakowski is killed in the present and vanishes from the future attack. The General orders instructions sent back to their agent in the present and it turns out to be the confused Miranda, who is not psychic merely informed from the future. Present Miranda leads the Deathloks to the Youth Development Center as Steve Rogers, Spider-Man and Luke Cage arrive on the scene. As the heroes fight the Deathloks, Miranda enters the Center with Deathlok Prime right behind//in the future, Bayer hurls a bomb at the time portal but it is caught by Deathlok Prime//in the present, DPrime finds Miranda holding a knife to a boy’s throat—it is DPrime as a child….

Avengers also on site include Thing, Spider-Woman (Jessica Drew), and Iron Fist

Review / Commentaries

Wolverine Weapon X #14 Review by (January 11, 2022)

Review: And here’s where this Deathlok tale turns screwy as, for the first time, the epic cuts closely back and forth between the present and the future. It’s still easier to follow than one would think and I hope I did it justice in my synopsis with my patented use of the double slash to indicate the sudden cuts. Seem like Logan and Bucky Cap had a bit less to do this time around as the focus was on Deathlok Prime and Miranda Bayer, the real motivating characters in this drama. Oh yeah, and a child was killed but Evan, we hardly knew ye so no one cares. Now the kid at the end is in a similar pickle so we’ll have to see what happens next time.

Comments: The alternate future where Roxxon rules is Earth-10511. Matt Milla collaborated on the colors.
