The Little House I Used to Live In

Synopsis

WWH Aftersmash: Damage Control #2 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

The Thunderbolts have halted Damage Control’s program of rebuilding New York City until all of the volunteers present can prove they are registered under the Superhuman Registration Act; Lenny Ballinger stands up to demands by Moonstone, Venom, and Penance but a threat of violence from Songbird silences him. John Porter arrives and tries to sort things out but he gets more threats from Radioactive Man and Moonstone plus Venom, drooling on him. Teenage Bart Rozum steps forward to ask Penance to have his team back off. It’s because Bart knows that Penance is Robbie Baldwin, the former Speedball, and good friend/former intern, whom he had tried to talk into getting therapy for his guilt over the Stamford Incident (see CIVIL WAR #1). And Robbie does it, telling Damage Control that the Thunderbolts will be back in three days to check IDs and work goes forward….

Several hours later after a long day of work, Monstro and Visioneer see someone in a collapsed building and Monstro goes in to check and the place falls in on him. Black Goliath shows up to help him out and the “rescue” turns out to be a robot that they send to Gene Strausser’s lab….

The next morning John returns to the office to find Robin Chapel has bene there all night; he has her rest and calls for what she needs, a change of clothes and a shower….

Gene shows Ray Lippert his new Adamantium razor (designed for She-Hulk). He is also studying the material Hulk’s ship was made of, dubbing it “Hulkanium.” The robot found in the ruins turns out to be Hulk’s pilot, ARCH-E 5912 and it is a testy sort, belittling Gene’s abilities. A call come through to Gene reporting that the Chrysler Building has grown a bearded face and giant hands and is quite angry….

Review / Commentaries

WWH Aftersmash: Damage Control #2 Review by (February 2, 2022)

Review: The madness continues, with a brief break for a poignant encounter between the guilt-ridden Penance and his old pal Bart Rozum of DC. Then it’s back to an obnoxious robot and a lot of spare Adamantium. And the final surprise is a surprise indeed. Well done but the matter of having to tie into a major event limits the madness of these tales a bit. Entertaining but not up to the fun factor of the three original miniseries.

Comments: Story takes place after the conclusion to WORLD WAR HULK (of course!). Visioneer (Abigail Dunton) was introduced in IRREDEEMABLE ANT-MAN #7. Robbie Baldwin interned for Damage Control in volumes 2 and 3 of their series. Yellowjacket and Thor Girl, appearing among the crown of heroes, are later revealed to be Skrulls. Too many cameos to list, see the Marvel Database.
