Captain America—Steve Rogers—is storming the Normandy beachhead on D-Day and the new Cap—Bucky Barnes—and the Black Widow have infiltrated the HAMMER Helicarrier. Meanwhile, Sharon Carter, the Falcon and the Vision are bringing Hank Pym (now the Wasp) up to date on the real story behind Steve’s death. Sharon reveals that she shot Steve while under the Red Skull’s control and that the Skull and Arnim Zola were attempting to bring him back with the use of Dr. Doom’s modified time platform. She describes how she was used as "the constant" in their mad scheme which failed, thanks to Sharon’s rebellion. She shows Pym the unusual gun which she shot Cap with and he recognizes it as Doom-tech. The time platform is on the HAMMER Helicarrier and new Cap and the Widow have been sent to recover it. Those two have run into a severe setback: it was a trap and they now face two of Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers –Ares and Venom….
Elsewhere, Osborn is questioning Arnim Zola about the scheme, learning that the tachyon gun sent Captain America into a limbo from which the Red Skull attempted to pluck him—until Sharon’s interference caused Cap to come unstuck in time….
Meanwhile, Captain America surveys the Normandy battlefield and is shocked when he is approached by Bucky Barnes…then he finds himself by his mother’s deathbed…then to another European battle site where Bucky has to push him to cover from a bombing. And he has no idea what is happening to him….
