In his duel with Titanium Man, Iron Man is taken unaware by land mines planted by the Russians around the arena. He recovers quickly but his left boot jet is damaged, leaving him unable to dodge his enemy’s radar rings which bind him fast. The hero exerts all his strength and forces the rings off him but he must stall long enough to recharge….

Meanwhile, Tony Stark’s bitter ex-girlfriend Countess Stephanie De La Spiroza goes to his hotel room looking for him but the industrialist isn’t there. She decides to steal the transistor device from the lab table to force him to come to her, unaware that this device is the crucial booster for Iron Man’s chestplate….

Back at the battleground, Iron Man is tricked into coming too close to Titanium Man and is seized by the humongous villain who bounces the hero off of some rocks. Fortunately, the armor protects Tony from injury. His chest hurting, he reaches for the back-up device, then realizes that he must have left it in the lab (idiot). Iron Man stalls until the break period; Titanium Man does too, encouraging Tony. When the break is called, he rushes back to the hotel room and discovers the device missing, Stephanie’s handkerchief left in its place as a hint. He quickly snatches up a replacement boot and heads back to the arena, stopping to explain the situation to Happy Hogan before he must rejoin the battle. Happy intercepts Stephanie (by running her car off the road) and recovers the device. Returning to the arena, he ignores Pepper’s concerned warning and rushes out on the battlefield to deliver the booster to Iron man. While the hero is distracted, Titanium Man unleashes his molecular scrambler; Iron Man is unaffected but Happy is caught in the blast. The critically injured sidekick calls Iron Man "Boss" before passing out and the Armored Avenger determines to win this battle for his faithful friend….

As Captain America is heading toward England in a captured Nazi fighter, the traitorous Dr. Rawlings is preparing a trap for him by attaching a hidden tank of sleep gas to the lab table which Bucky is strapped to. Cap arrives at Castle Greymoor and enters stealthily but the Nazis are waiting for him. Though Celia Rawlings tries to warn Cap, they spring their trap. Cap successfully holds them off but when he tries to free Bucky the gas bursts in his face, rendering him unconscious. Back in France, the German tanks counterattack the American forces and the missing Steve Rogers is suspected of being a deserter. At the castle, Major Uberhart orders Cap and Bucky placed in a V-2 missile which is to be launched at the heart of London. Over Rawlings’ protests, the arrogant Nazi orders Celia Rawlings put in the missile as well. Its target? Number 10 Downing Street, the home of Prime Minister Churchill....

Tales of Suspense #70 Review by (May 9, 2012)
Review (Iron Man): The epic battle between Iron Man and one of his great enemies Titanium Man is so cool that we’ll overlook the fact that this is the, what, 87th armored villain to appear in the 32-issue series so far? All action plus a bad fate for Happy, which will play a part in a subsequent story….

Review (Iron Man): A satisfying (if dated by its Cold War politics) wrap-up to the epic, ends on a bitter note, with Tony again mourning his cruel fate of being a millionaire playboy and a superhero, all because he can’t have Gwynneth Paltrow. Poor baby. Wait, I thought the device which Happy risked his life to give to Iron Man was the booster for the chestplate (which was certainly the impression we were given last issue); now it is revealed to be the “reverser” Tony was working on at the beginning of issue #69, apparently something with a weapons application. I’m confused.

Oops, I did it again! Brittany Spears will have my head! I added the review for #71 without moving to issue #71 first.
