Synopsis / Summary / Plot
During the Red Zone arc She-Hulk's gamma radiation was depleted by Jack Of Hearts' radiation-absorbing physiology, and it turned her into a berserk version. She ran off and since then has been remaining as Jennifer Walters while trying to track down her cousin Bruce Banner for help (by following his trail of destruction as Hulk). In #72 Captain America, Iron Man and Scarlet Witch tracked *her* down to Bone, Idaho, but Jen was afraid to go with them and fear is what triggers She-Hulk now. The green monster is now more powerful than ever, and last issue she wiped the floor with the 3 Avengers. But then Hawkeye turned up.
The swashbuckling ex-Avenger bowman dodges her attacks and annoys her with trick arrows to keep her attention and draw her away from the town. Which he finally accomplishes with a motorbike. But the green leaper catches up with him on a mountainside and tosses him into a snow-covered pine forest where he lies slumped against a tree. As she's about to beat him up she's interrupted by cousin Bruce.
Banner tells Clint Barton he's got a cracked rib and advises him to lay still while he attempts top talk Jennifer down. He shows her the wrecked town in the distance, but tells her it's all *his* fault because of the blood transfusion which gave her the Hulk powers in the 1st place. Shulkie says that was a *good* thing because it made her fear and weakness go away. She gives him a hug but loudly declares that puny humans should leave the Hulks alone. Hawkeye is now worried again and aims an arrow at her. Bruce warns him that it will only make her angry, and that will make *him* angry - and that would be bad all round.
Bruce reminds Jen of what we learned last issue, how when they were young she used to spend summers with his family and she spent a lot of time reading with him to protect him from his abusive father. She-Hulk admits that as Jennifer she was always afraid of failure, not living up to her parents' expectations. And she calms down.
Back in town Sheriff Sheryl Howards and her deputy son Lance find the Avengers blasting (courtesy of Iron Man's repulsors) free of the rubble that buried them. They see Mona (the waitress from #72) searching for her son Jonah, and Cap promises to find him. IM thinks She-Hulk is too strong for them and they should call in Jack Of Hearts to drain her power again. But the US Army's Hulkbuster forces drop in, including Doc Samson.
The 3 on the mountainside see the military craft in the sky, but Bruce opines that they're after *him* not Jen. Banner suggests he and Jen run away, but the Savage She-Hulk doesn't back down from a fight. She pushes Bruce away and strides off to meet the advancing troops. But Hawkeye has an idea, and he shoots an arrow through Banner's arm. The pain makes Bruce Hulk out, and the behemoth leaps towards his cousin shouting "Hulk make She-Hulk listen".
