Black Widow (2014 series) #10

Many years ago in Islamabad, Black Widow was helping an accountant named Rashid to escape across the border. And the agent trying to stop her? None other than Hawkeye. As Natasha and Rashid drive through the city streets, Hawkeye runs across the roofs, trying for position. A chemical arrow obscures the windshield so they ditch the car and run. Nat hijacks a motorcycle and they continue their escape. Nat shoots down Hawkeye’s first arrow but a second jams the front tire, sending them flying….

Interspersed with this flashback story is a current subplot wherein Isaiah Ross tries to learn who his captors are and they are not forthcoming….

Then: Hawkeye reports to Captain America, informing him that their opponent is Natasha. Clint assures Cap that he is an Avenger first and will not let his feelings for Natasha get in the way. Nat sends Rashid running toward the fence he must climb to get away while she takes a position with a rifle, shooting at Hawkeye who tries to stop Rashid. Rashid makes it over the fence and he is picked up by his contacts. Nat’s bullet severs Hawkeye’s bowstring and an arrow enters the car, the arrow breaking Rashid’s eyeglasses, slashing his check before it lands in the car seat….

The villain is revealed to be Rashid by the scar on his face. He tells Isaiah that he is merely bait for the Black Widow. Isaiah tries to assure him that Natasha doesn’t care about him but Rashid calls her, as she sits in Maria Hill’s office (end of last issue). Nat recognizes Rashid’s voice. She makes her excuses to Hill and Tony Stark and departs. Recalling her duel with Hawkeye years ago, she knows she needs help, someone off the books and angry….
